Drawing Near to God: Reconnect Through Prayer and Abiding

Reconnecting to prayer begins with God already standing there, already knocking, already calling the heart back to himself. James says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you,” and that word puts action on the believer. God has already done the cross, already bled, already opened access through Christ Jesus, the great high priest. Prayer becomes that holy place where a person stops waiting on God like God is late and starts coming close to the Father who is already there.

Prayer is not just “thank you for this food, take away the calories.” Prayer is deep reverence, love, crying out, talking with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God reveals himself more as a person draws near. Revelation begins to come, Scripture starts speaking volumes, dreams get affected, and something spiritual starts happening because connection brings overflow.

Mark shows Jesus rising a long while before daylight and going to a solitary place to pray. Christ did not begin with crowds, ministry, demons, or preaching. Christ began with the Father. Prayer filled him, prepared him, and gave direction for the next town. “Everyone is looking for you,” but Jesus already knew the purpose for the day because he had been with the Father.

Luke shows Jesus often withdrawing into the wilderness to pray when multitudes came to hear him and be healed. Even in powerful ministry, Christ withdrew to be refreshed. Burnout does not have to become quitting. The wilderness with God becomes the place where strength comes back, where the Father cradles, restores, and pours in again.

John 15 says, “Abide in me,” because the branch cannot bear fruit by itself. Fruitfulness comes out of connection, not merely activity. A person can do religious things, feed people, serve hard, and still be operating out of flesh if God is not in the mix. Without Christ, nothing has real life in it.

Prayer needs a real place, real time, and real focus. The believer needs the prayer closet, the dark room, the quiet morning, the depth of night, the phone put down, the TV off, and the mouth actually speaking to God. God wants the heart near, not distant activity. Reconnecting in prayer starts the day with God, ends the day with God, and lets the overflow of the Holy Spirit pour from the inside out.
