“``Doubt not that is something that's apart from faith, but doubt that is very much a part of belief. Faith. Frederick Buechner famously said that doubt is the ants in the pants of faith. It means that we struggle with faith. And faith isn't something that means ironclad belief or that we know beyond the shadow of a doubt. The reality of our faith is that it's relational. It's about trust. And there are times that we are uncertain, like Thomas. And that's okay. Because the God that we worship is the God that is present to us and for us in those times that we're able to ascent, but especially and particularly in those places where we are uncertain, Where we don't know.”

“And Moses said, that's not good enough. God offered other responses. And each time Moses says, not good enough. Finally, God says, you're a 120 years old. Human beings have limits and you will die. And for whatever reason, Moses relents. But the Midrash continues that Moses lies down and God comes down from the highest heaven and approaches his friend. He kisses Moses, and in the kiss draws the very breath from Moses. And then God weeps. The story of God with God's people is one of that type of intimacy. God claiming you in your baptism, calling you into life, and walking with you throughout your life.”
