The gift of God's grace is the most precious thing one could ever receive, yet it is possible to have it and never truly connect it to one's life. This grace offers freedom from sin and a transformed life, but it requires an immediate response. To hesitate is to risk missing out on the full power and liberty that this divine gift provides. Today is the day of salvation; this moment is the acceptable time. [05:02]
For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2 CSB)
Reflection: In what specific area of your life are you most tempted to believe that your ongoing status with God depends on your own performance rather than His complete grace?
God's grace is not merely a theological concept to be admired from a distance, like a powerful waterfall whose energy goes untapped. It is a dynamic force meant to be harnessed and activated within the believer's daily life. This power provides strength to be steadfast, faithful, and pure in every situation. It equips us to face any trial or tragedy without fear, transforming our entire existence. [14:37]
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 CSB)
Reflection: Where have you been content to simply admire God's grace from afar, and what would it look like this week to actually plug into its power for a specific challenge you are facing?
The Christian life is not promised to be easy, and God does not sugarcoat the reality of hardships, afflictions, and difficulties. Yet, in the midst of these trials, God's grace is the sustaining power that enables believers to endure. This steadfastness is demonstrated through purity, knowledge, patience, and kindness, even when circumstances are dire. It is the fruit of the Spirit working through us, proving that grace has truly taken root. [20:41]
We commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardships, by difficulties, by beatings, by imprisonments, by riots, by labors, by sleepless nights, by times of hunger, by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love... (2 Corinthians 6:4-6 CSB)
Reflection: When a recent difficulty tempted you toward self-indulgence or despair, how might you have differently relied on God's grace to remain steadfast and pure?
Engaging with the world from a position of God's grace equips the believer for spiritual battle. This is not a physical conflict but a struggle fought with divine weapons for both offense and defense—the word of truth and the shield of faith. The world may respond with misunderstanding, slander, or dishonor, but those who are armed by grace need not fear any misrepresentation. They can stand firm, possessing everything in Christ even when they appear to have nothing. [23:12]
...by the word of truth, by the power of God; through weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, through glory and dishonor, through slander and good report; regarded as deceivers, yet true; as unknown, yet recognized... (2 Corinthians 6:7-9 CSB)
Reflection: As you anticipate a difficult conversation or situation this week, which spiritual weapon—God's truth or active faith—do you need to take up more intentionally?
A life that fully receives God's grace is marked by vulnerability and openness, not restriction and self-protection. This means opening one's heart to the Lord's teachings and to genuine fellowship with other believers, despite the risk of being hurt or the fear of new obligations. This openness mirrors the heart of Christ, who first opened His heart to us. It is the final, crucial step to living in the full measure of God's transforming grace. [28:29]
We have spoken openly to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide. You are not limited by us, but you are limited by your own affections. Now in like return—I speak as to children—you also be open. (2 Corinthians 6:11-13 CSB)
Reflection: What fear or past experience is currently causing you to withhold your heart, and what would be one practical step toward opening it more fully to God or a trusted believer?
God's grace ranks as the most precious gift and risks becoming wasted when received but left unused. Paul appeals to the Corinthians with urgency: now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. Isaiah’s prophecy gets fulfilled in Christ, and salvation invites immediate response so grace may transform daily living rather than remain a mere emotional impression or an unused pardon. The first corrective calls for immediate reception of grace—accepting pardon and embracing the present availability of Christ’s help so that life actually changes, not simply feeling forgiven.
The second corrective insists on steadfastness. Paul lists endurance amid afflictions, beatings, imprisonments, sleepless nights, and hunger to show how grace equips believers to persevere. Trials do not nullify grace; they refine knowledge, patience, kindness, and purity, and they supply spiritual weapons—the word of God and faith—to face opposition without compromising the message. Paul frames suffering as participation in Christ’s path rather than a sign of spiritual failure.
The third corrective demands open hearts. Paul issues a fatherly plea for relational vulnerability: the apostles’ openness to the Corinthians warrants reciprocal openness from the Corinthians. Closing off to brothers and sisters, harboring suspicion from past hurts, or fearing the obligations of mutual care all stunt the life-granting flow of grace. Genuine reception of grace therefore includes both trusting Jesus for reconciliation and risking vulnerability with God’s people so grace can be lived out and multiplied.
Practical application threads through every point: avoid treating grace like an ornament, harness it like living power, stand firm amid suffering, and cultivate open, accountable relationships. The invitation culminates with a clear call to receive Christ now, for only through union with him does the full measure of grace become present and operative. Living by grace means immediate reception, persistent faithfulness, and relational openness—so grace does not lie unused on the shelf but produces transformation and fruit.
Do not let this day go by without reconciling with God and receiving his grace. The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for sinners like you and me. He was buried in the ground. And on the third day, Jesus Christ rose from the dead. He conquered death. And now Jesus rules from heaven, and he promises if you will turn to him, he will give you his grace without measure. He will give you his grace in an overflowing way, in a way that you cannot even possibly fathom. He will give you eternal life that begins today. Let it begin today. Receive God's grace. Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ today. Open your heart to him. Today is the day of salvation.

God's grace is available now. It is completely free to you. You can have it immediately. It is a gift. And nothing could be more foolish than to not receive that gift, not to receive that pardon. You know what that would be like? That would be like a man on death row receiving a call from the president that every death row inmate wants to receive. You've been pardoned. You're free to go. And then imagine he just sits there in his cell and never leaves and goes, wow. So cool that I was pardoned and never makes any change, never leaves the jail, never goes back to life, never lives in light of the pardon he's received. Paul is saying, don't do that. You've been you've received grace. Live in light of the grace and the freedom and the liberty that God has given you. So now you might ask, well, what does this look like to not receive God's grace? Am I living in the full freedom that God has for me? How do I know? Well, there are a couple of different ways that we might not receive God's grace immediately. A few different ways that we might not fully be living in God's grace. One way would be

Maybe you've been there. Maybe you've just seen pictures or videos of it, but you know it is a powerful waterfall. As a matter of fact, I think it's three different waterfalls. And do you know how much water flows over Niagara Falls? It's 40,000,000 gallons a minute. Isn't that just nuts? 40,000,000 gallons a minute go over Niagara Falls, over all the waterfalls that are there. And for thousands of years, Niagara Falls stood there as this awe inspiring spectacle. Anybody who would see it, I'm sure, would be overwhelmed by perhaps an emotional response. But all that water would just go over the waterfall and then go down the Niagara River and and disappear.

Paul called himself a fellow worker with God. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you too can be a fellow worker with God. Ask yourself this. Am I concerned about man's approval, or am I concerned about God's approval? Is my lifestyle consistent with the message that I say that I believe? Am I working together with God, or am I putting obstacles in people's way to come to faith in Jesus Christ? Am I living out the implications of God's grace and remaining steadfast through trials, or am I receiving God's grace in vain and wasting God's grace in my life? Because, my friends, I can promise you this. Trials will come. Jesus promised that. Trials will come. But if you cling on to God's grace, he will enable you to remain steadfast. He gives us the strength to remain steadfast so that we don't waste god's grace in our lives.

Sin really is a tragic offense against the Lord. But just as that is true, so it's also true that God's grace is free and complete. And if you are here today and you have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ, you have to hear me on this. Your status with God is not c minus or d or even b. Because of Jesus Christ and his perfection, because he fully paid the price, your status before God is a plus. Not because of your perfection. All fall short of the glory of God. We all fall short in many ways, scripture tells us. But Jesus Christ never fell short, and he has paid for you.

Whatever hardships come your way this week or even today, however people might misunderstand you, misrepresent you, you can remember this. God's grace will be with you. God has grace for you in whatever your situation is. It's there. He is offering it to you. If you trust in Jesus Christ, then open your heart to the Lord fully. Receive that grace and live in the power of that grace. Remain steadfast through trial, not by your own strength, but by his grace alone. Receive that immediately. And if you commit to that, God will respond with even more grace.

Paul says, today is the day to realize that. Today is salvation. Don't let the power of God's grace be just a spectacle in your life. Don't let it pass you by. Receive it. Receive it immediately. So that's the first step to not wasting God's grace. The second one is this, remain steadfast. This comes from verses three through 10. This is the longest section of our text today. In verses three through 10, Paul's gonna show us what it looks like to not waste God's grace in our lives. And he starts this section by saying that they don't give he and his fellow ministers do not give a reason or an occasion for offense at all.

Jesus Christ is here. Jesus is the promised messiah. And because Jesus has come and he's here and he has died for our sins and he was buried and he was raised to life on the third day, he's now ascended to heaven, and he gives eternal life and salvation to all who believe in him today. Today is the day of salvation. This is urgent. Don't miss this. Freedom from sin is now being offered. Paul says, this is it. Don't just sit there. Don't just sit there. Respond to God's grace. Receive Jesus Christ as Lord.
