Don't Judge Too Soon: Trust God's Redemptive Plan

God is not limited by time. God sees the past, the present, and the future, and that makes human judgment pretty shaky when something looks bad, real bad. Joseph’s story shows that what brothers meant for evil, God meant for good, and that good took years to show up. Genesis 50:20 does not pretend slavery, false accusation, and prison were good things, but it does show that God can work through all of it to keep many people alive.

Jeremiah 29:11 shows the same thing with long range plans. God gave that word to people heading into seventy years of captivity, and that means God’s plans can be bigger than the here and now. The human heart rushes to judge a situation as good or bad, but time may show that the label came too early. Sometimes it is just too soon to tell.

Romans 8:28 does not say all things are good. Obviously, they are not. Romans says God causes all things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. A missed flight, a painful accident, a broken body, or a season that looks hopeless can become the place where God brings life, repentance, and a straight path.

Trust becomes the real issue when the situation still looks bad. Proverbs 3:5-6 calls God’s people not to lean on their own understanding, because that understanding often helped create the problem in the first place. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, so faith stands there when there is no other evidence yet that God is working. The father in Mark 9 says it plainly: “I do believe. Help my unbelief.”

God’s outlook is different from that of His children. Isaiah 55 says His ways are higher than human ways, and His word does not return empty. That means God’s people are not qualified to judge every event in their own lives, and they are even less qualified to judge what God is doing in someone else’s life. Luke 6 warns against condemnation, because the log in one eye makes it hard to inspect the splinter in another.

The call to fathers and parents is guidance, not harsh verdicts. Ephesians 6:4 calls fathers not to provoke children to anger, but to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Children need boundaries, correction, encouragement, and sometimes the chance to fail in small ways. God can take strange ingredients, disappointment, accidents, sickness, stress, celebration, and work good out of the whole mix.
