Divine Protection: Navigating Trials and Temptations

Summary

In today's reflection, we delve into the profound line from the Lord's Prayer: "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." This plea is a request for divine protection, acknowledging the pervasive influence of evil in our world. We recognize that while we take measures to protect ourselves physically, the spiritual battle is far more significant. The devil's influence permeates every system, aiming to sever our fellowship with God. This line in the prayer is a call to be safeguarded from the devil's schemes, which are designed to derail our spiritual journey.

Understanding the dual nature of trials and temptations is crucial. Trials, allowed by God, are meant to develop us spiritually, pushing us to grow and deepen our relationship with Him. In contrast, temptations, orchestrated by the devil, aim to defeat us and create a rift between us and God. Often, these trials and temptations occur simultaneously, challenging us to discern and choose the path that leads to spiritual growth rather than spiritual defeat.

The devil's strategy involves exploiting our desires, turning legitimate needs into sinful cravings. He knows our weaknesses and uses them to entice us away from God's will. However, the desire itself is not the sin; it is the decision to act on it that leads to sin. Therefore, we must focus on God's goodness, faithfulness, and His Word to overcome these temptations. By shifting our focus to God's unwavering nature and His promises, we find the strength to resist the devil's lures.

In moments of trial and temptation, we are reminded of God's faithfulness. He promises not to allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and provides a way of escape. Our task is to trust in His provision and remain steadfast in our commitment to Him. By focusing on His goodness, faithfulness, and Word, we align ourselves with His perspective, recognizing our identity as His cherished first fruits. This understanding empowers us to stand firm against the devil's schemes, knowing that God is our deliverer.

In the Lord's Prayer, the plea "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" is a profound request for divine protection. This line acknowledges the spiritual battle that exists beyond our physical world, where the devil's influence seeks to sever our connection with God. While we often focus on physical safety, the spiritual realm requires even greater vigilance. The devil's schemes are designed to derail our spiritual journey, making it essential to seek God's protection and guidance. By recognizing the pervasive influence of evil, we can better prepare ourselves to stand firm in our faith and maintain our fellowship with God. [01:13]

Ephesians 6:12-13 (ESV): "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm."

Reflection: Identify a specific area in your life where you feel spiritually vulnerable. How can you actively seek God's protection and guidance in this area today?

Day 2: Trials and Temptations: A Path to Spiritual Growth
Understanding the distinction between trials and temptations is crucial for spiritual growth. By recognizing the purpose of trials and the destructive nature of temptations, we can navigate challenges with a focus on spiritual development. [06:37]

James 1:2-4 (ESV): "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

Reflection: Reflect on a recent trial you have faced. How did you respond, and what can you learn from it to better handle future challenges with a focus on spiritual growth?

Day 3: The Battle of Desire and Sin
The devil's strategy involves exploiting our desires, turning legitimate needs into sinful cravings. He knows our weaknesses and uses them to entice us away from God's will. However, the desire itself is not the sin; it is the decision to act on it that leads to sin. Therefore, we must focus on God's goodness, faithfulness, and His Word to overcome these temptations. By shifting our focus to God's unwavering nature and His promises, we find the strength to resist the devil's lures and align our desires with His will. [14:32]

James 1:14-15 (ESV): "But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death."

Reflection: Consider a desire in your life that has the potential to lead you away from God's will. How can you redirect this desire towards something that honors God?

Day 4: Trusting in God's Faithfulness
In moments of trial and temptation, we are reminded of God's faithfulness. He promises not to allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and provides a way of escape. Our task is to trust in His provision and remain steadfast in our commitment to Him. By focusing on His goodness, faithfulness, and Word, we align ourselves with His perspective, recognizing our identity as His cherished first fruits. This understanding empowers us to stand firm against the devil's schemes, knowing that God is our deliverer. [21:22]

1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV): "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Quotes

This line in the Lord's prayer is a request for protection. It is a request for God to protect you. Now why do you need protection? It's obvious when we read the newspaper and we see the evil that men do that we need protection. We have security in our homes, security on our cars. Some have weapons in their homes. It's just we recognize the human need against other human beings for protection. But the concern of this request is much deeper than that. [00:38:44]

Satan's goal is to break us up from fellowship with God because if he can accomplish that, he can mess up everything else. He wants to separate us from fellowship with God. Satan wants to sack you and me so that we regress in our spiritual lives and not progress in our spiritual lives. [00:56:40]

Trials are adverse circumstances, negative things that happen that are designed to develop you spiritually. A trial is a negative event that God causes or God allows. But every trial is only for one purpose and that is to grow you spiritually, to mature you spiritually, to drive you to God at another level and to take you to the next spiritual place God has for you. [00:54:33]

A temptation by the devil is designed to defeat you. God is designed the negative experience to develop you. Satan brings temptation in order to defeat you spiritually and separate you. You'll see what I mean in a moment. Further from God. Now here is the problem. Trials and temptations often happen around the same event. [00:59:11]

What Satan does is he piggybacks on a trial to try to turn it into a temptation. He will take something legitimate and try to take a legitimate and make it illegitimate. He'll take food and try to turn it into gluttony. He'll take sex and try to turn it into immorality. He'll take money and turn it into greed or theft or debt. [01:07:37]

He says "Lead us not into any situation we can't handle." That's what lead us not in the temptation mean. Don't put me, don't give me a trial where I will be overrun by a temptation or if I'm already been beat up by the devil. If I'm already defeated by him deliver us from evil. [01:14:24]

What Satan does is he creates a craving for something outside of the will of God. He wants you to want it. In Adam and Eve in the garden he told them God told him "Don't eat of the fruit of the uh in the midst of the garden." But when Satan talked to Eve it says when she saw it was delightful and desirable and was able to make one wise she ate it because he created desire. [01:21:04]

The fact that your flesh wants to sin is not the problem because that's what the flesh does. You cannot stop the flesh from wanting to be fleshy. If you get tricked into that you'll walk around miserable all the time cuz you got this part of you that wants to do wrong because it was trained in your unsaved days or maybe even amplified in your saved days to want what God does not want. [01:28:39]

He says "Here's how the faithfulness of God works. When you're being drawn by Satan into sin or even when God is allowing you to deal with the trial number one he will control how long it lasts and how deep it goes cuz he will not allow you to be tempted above what you're able." [01:32:52]

He says "And when he gives it to you," he says "God is faithful and in his faithfulness he will not give you but will with the temptation give you the way of escape." I don't know if you just heard that. With the temptation will come the way of escape not after the temptation. [01:36:02]

You focus on what God says not how you feel. You focus on what God says not how you think. You focus on what God says not what everybody else has to say. You go back. Yeah. This is what I feel but God this is what you say. This is what I want but this is what you say. [01:44:50]

He says you are the first fruits. The first fruit was the cream of the crop is what you offered God first because it was viewed as the most precious. It was being it was honoring God to give God first. It gives him honor. So he says he says that you are first fruits. In other words don't let the devil dow back your dignity. [01:51:49]
