Dot-to-Dot Discipleship: Everyday People Connecting Others to Christ

Acts 18 shows God connecting dots through unnamed, common everyday people who simply act on the Holy Spirit in everyday life. The picture of dot to dot discipleship begins with the truth that every dot starts somewhere, yet God often puts many people along the way before somebody comes to Christ. Dwight Davis, Christian teachers, Coach Quisenberry, and faithful people passing out tracts show how seeds can be planted for years before anybody sees the result.

God brings Aquila and Priscilla from Italy to Corinth through a government order, then connects them with Paul through their shared work as tentmakers. Gallio, though not a believer, becomes another dot in God’s providence by protecting an open door for the gospel.

Aquila and Priscilla finally show what everyday discipleship looks like. They hear Apollos, recognize that he is fervent but only half right, take him aside, and explain the way of God more perfectly. Discipleship is not just a class, a curriculum, or somebody on a stage. Discipleship is all of life, helping people increasingly submit everyday life to the empowering presence and lordship of Jesus Christ.
