#WholeheartedDiscipleship
“Discipleship means that everything is laid at the feet of Jesus, our whole lives coming before him. Radically reorienting our ordinary lives to follow Jesus. That's what discipleship is. This is a difficult type of discipleship, giving everything over to Jesus, but it is worth it. And it's not worth it because of some, you know, ethereal phrase that the journey is more important than the destination. No. It's worth it because the destination is not something for ourselves, but it is Jesus. And Jesus is glorious and wonderful and powerful and worthy of our following him with everything that we have.”

#GodsPresence
“And his presence isn't a scary thing. Right? If Jesus was without love, then his presence would be terrifying. It would be like nineteen eighty four big brothers watching sort of thing where he has all power and all authority, and he's watching you all the time, and that would be terrifying. But since god is love, means that we can trust that Jesus' presence is a good thing. It means that you always have someone with you, even in your darkest moment, who loves you and who promises to walk with you through the suffering and will bring you to the other side. And that one day he promises to make it all right.”

#FaithAtWork
“Discipleship is a radical reorientation of our lives after God, but it is our ordinary lives that get pointed towards him. Most of us aren't called to give up everything that we own and move overseas and take a vow of poverty. Most of us, for our discipleship to be radical, it means having our ordinary lives radically oriented towards God. It means faithfully working at our jobs, not for power or for money or for success in this world, but for God and his glory.”

#LoveYourNeighbor
“It means that we serve our neighbors and we tell them about Jesus, not because it's something that puts a notch in our belt or checks off a box or that we use to earn our way into God's good graces, but because we love them, because we love our neighbors as Jesus has called us to. It means that we worship God faithfully, not just on Sundays, but with our whole life. We lift up his name. It's ordinary, yes, because most of our lives are ordinary. But it's radical because it means our whole life is pointed towards following Jesus.”

#AbrahamsJourney
“And so from Abraham's story, we see that discipleship is a radical thing. It is a radical reorientation of his life so that who he was before is totally changed by the presence of God in his life. It is not for the faint of heart to be a disciple from Jesus... Of Jesus. When God's call came, it rerouted Abraham from being a pagan in the land of Ur and drew him to faithful worship of God in the promised land.”

#FaithfulInTheOrdinary
“Because, yes, Abraham's discipleship was a radical shift and a reorientation of his life, and, yes, he had some incredible things happen in his life. He he left his home. He led a war effort. He heard God speak to him directly. But those extraordinary events were spread over the course of a hundred years of Abraham's life after his call. Most of the work of his life was really quite ordinary. He had kids, and he raised them to love God. He raised animals, and he did it to God's glory. He worshiped God with all his heart, and he is counted the father of God's people.”

#JesusBringsLife
“So he's the right of creation, and he has the right of conquest. Now this is different from human conquest because Jesus isn't coming in as an oppressor who has taken over, a land that doesn't belong to him. No. He is the right of conquest as in he came and he kicked out the forces of this world and the forces of darkness that try to claim that this kingdom was theirs when it's actually god's. And Jesus doesn't come bringing death and destruction, but he comes bringing life.”

#MakeDisciples
“This gospel passage is centered around the phrase make disciples. All of the other commands that Jesus gives are a description of what it means to make disciples. So you go to make disciples. You baptize to make disciples. You teach to make disciples. The central core of this is making disciples. That is what Jesus is calling out here. This is the thing that Jesus thought was so important that he used some of his last words before ascending into heaven to communicate it to his church.”
