#EternalDevotion
“``Here's the problem. Most of us are devoted to things that won't last. We're just devoted to these temporary things of this world. And sometimes they're even like good things, But none of those things bled on a cross for you. None of those things were raised from a grave for you. And none of those things will be there for you when this life is over. You're gonna leave them behind. So devote yourself to what will matter for all eternity. Give it your highest devotion.”

#ShareYourFaith
“You're responsible for sharing what you've experienced, what you know to be true. You're responsible for sharing the life changing power of the gospel. It is the gospel that is the power of God to salvation. We as his people share. does the saving. The Lord added. Every believer has a responsibility to share the gospel. Every every single one of you. You have people in your sphere of influence, whether it's at your school, on your team, in your sorority, or your fraternity, in the cafeteria, in your office, in your break room, in your neighborhood, standing on the sideline of your kids' sporting events, you know people. You have credibility with them. They've seen the way you live. You know people that I will never know. You have a connection with them and credibility with them that that I don't have, And you have this opportunity to find a way to have gospel conversations with them every single one of us.”

#SharedInChrist
“You see it in verse 42. They devoted themselves, the apostles teaching, and to the fellowship. The Bible says that they were together. The word fellowship is the word koinonia in the language of the New Testament, it means to have things in common. Now look. When you look at a church like ours, we're very different. We have different age demographics. We have different political thoughts. We have different loyalties to teams and universities, and we'll we'll get into that in a few weeks in football season. Right? We're really pretty different. So what in the world could we have in common? We have a common savior. That's what we have in common. We have a common reality that we were sinners and that we were fallen and hopeless. And we have a common savior who rescued us from our sin and our self destruction. That's what we have in common. We have a common heartbeat to see others come to know this savior.”

#EveryBoatCounts
“It literally was a turning point of World War two. But my point being this, it wasn't the big ships. It was every little ship. It was every fishing boat. It was every little yacht. It was every sailboat that they could get with an engine in that came and loaded off ten, twenty, 30 soldiers and brought them out. You see, no matter how big your boat is, you have an opportunity to be a part of God's rescue mission. His rescue mission began with the gospel, with Jesus dying on a cross and coming forth from the grave. But it continues with us sharing that message with men, women, boys, and girls around us. We believe it is our job to reach our community.”

#PresenceOverContent
“During COVID, which is I know is a period we'd all like to forget. But I would come to this room every week and preach to empty pews, And I hated it. I hated it. Now I did it because I knew that some of you were watching on the other end of that, and and I wanted to minister to you. I wanted to be faithful. I wanted to encourage you. But, boy, just being in this room alone and preaching, maybe me and a camera operator and a sound operator, it was not the same. And I know this, it wasn't the same for you either. You're sitting in your living room watching on TV, and you could get the content, but you can't get presence.”

#SteadfastDevotion
“This is the story of the embryonic church. This is the story of the church in its very beginning phases. And before I move into those five functions, I want you to see a word that is used twice in this passage that I think says something very, very powerful to us. I think it's the most important word in the passage. And it is the word that says they were devoted. They were devoted to these things. The word devoted means to continue steadfastly. It means to consistently practice something. If you're devoted to something, you persevere through setbacks and obstacles to pursue whatever it is you are devoted to. You see, these were the settled commitments of these Christ followers. Understand this, that these five habits that we're gonna talk about that a healthy church must engage in, They were devoted to these five things. And for us at First Baptist Church Wichita Falls, at Shepherd, at West, we must be devoted to these five things. They are nonnegotiables.”

#CoreBeliefs
“We believe that God created the heavens and the earth. We believe that God made them male and female. We believe that sin infected and affected everything about the world. And because of that, God put in place a rescue mission. And that rescue mission meant that he sent his only begotten son. We believe that Jesus lived a sinless life. He died a sufficient death, and he rose literally from the grave. We believe that he's coming back someday, and we believe that everyone who calls in the name of the lord will be saved. all of those things are in this book, and a whole lot more and a whole lot more.”

#WordEquips
“It was vitally important that these people on the day of Pentecost received Christ, that they were saved, that someone reached out to them, and day to day people are being added. But it is equally important that we equip you with the word of God to live, to function, to serve. You see, this early church had a deep commitment to God's word. And if you're new here, just let me say this to you. We, as a church, have a deep commitment to the truthfulness and to the sufficiency of God's word. We believe the stuff in the book. We believe it all.”

#ShareTheHope
“And I want to relieve you of that burden because I want to show you something in verse 47. Every day, the lord added to their number. It is my responsibility to share my faith. By the way, not just because I'm the preacher, because I'm a Christ follower. It is your responsibility to share your faith. It really is. You should be telling people about this hope, this love, this joy, this forgiveness, this peace that you found in Jesus.”

#WorshipTogether
“We believe worship is vitally important that we gather together for worship. Christian worship is inherently corporate. Now I do worship personally and privately. Sometimes it's with music in my car. I worship every day by reading my bible and praying. I have private moments of worship, and that I would advocate for. But Christian worship is inherently corporate. It is a together thing that we do.”

#KnownAndLoved
“And someone it's amazing how god places people. Someone is gonna say, I've been there, And I'm gonna pray with you through this, and I'm gonna walk with you through this, and I'm gonna text you a couple of times a week to see how you're doing. I'm gonna help you through this. That is the essence of the New Testament church, that we love one another enough to be known by one another.”

#LeadSomeoneToChrist
“If you are waiting for the preacher to change the world, you're gonna be waiting a long time because it takes all of us to see people come to know Jesus. You have both the responsibility. But let me say this, you have the privilege of doing that. If you ever get the opportunity to lead somebody to faith in Christ, I'm gonna tell you what it will do. It will absolutely fuel your fire to where you will want to see it happen again. When you see that happen, when when you when God uses you and you become a part of that,”

#FaithInTheMarketplace
“the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. That's not Peter standing up preaching. That's these 3,000 plus people. That's these followers of Jesus. That's the apostles penetrating the marketplace, going into neighborhoods, talking to people who had traveled to Jerusalem. They were sharing. They were actively sharing their faith, and every people were coming to know Jesus. They were coming to know Jesus in schools. They were coming to know Jesus in break rooms. They were coming to know Jesus in offices. They were coming to know Jesus in living rooms. It didn't take a church service. It didn't take Sunday. Every day, people were being added. And that is why it is so important that you begin to adopt an attitude that I want to share this hope, this love, this forgiveness that I have found in Jesus Christ.”

#ServeDontConsume
“Have you ever thought of that? Maybe rather than looking at this and saying, I'm a consumer, maybe I need to approach it from the approach of I'm a servant. And some people say, well, you know what? I I just I just don't need that. Well, maybe they need you. Maybe you have something to offer to someone in there. Because I'm gonna tell you this, there are no unique problems. I know we all wanna believe that. My situation is unique. No. I'll guarantee you this. Somebody else has walked through it. Somebody else walked through loss. Somebody else has walked through bankruptcy. Somebody else has walked through divorce. Somebody else has walked through conflict. Somebody else has walked through unemployment. Somebody else has walked through whatever it is you're I won't guarantee your situation is not unique.”

#LoveInAction
“Christian generosity is when I see a need, and I sacrificially give and voluntarily give to meet that need. That's what we see in the New Testament. We see in the New Testament Christians who looked at another who was jobless, and they said we're gonna help them out until that person can get a job. Because what would happen many times is that these new believers would come to faith in Christ, and their Jewish employers would unemploy them. They'd get fired. They'd they'd say, well, I'm not gonna pay you anymore if you're gonna believe him. That's Jesus. And so they would take care of one another. They looked at those who were hurting because of the way that we all hurt through disease or through death. And they said, we're gonna come alongside those folks. We're gonna love them. We're gonna serve them.”

#PrayForRevival
“And what we're gonna talk about today is actually what happened in the book of acts. And while the day of Pentecost is a unique moment in redemptive history, we're not gonna get a second Pentecost. What happened on the day of Pentecost and in the days following gives us, first of all, a meaningful guide as a church. What we pray for is an outpouring and a moving of God's spirit in a way that men, women, boys, girls are drawn to faith in Christ, that that broken things are are renewed, that that hearts are transformed, that lives are changed, that marriages are restored. We pray for God to do big things.”

#SpiritEmpowered
“In Acts chapter two, what happens is this, the church is born. Now before this moment, the disciples have been gathered together, and they're praying, and they're seeking God for what is next. And what happens is the Holy Spirit comes in mighty power. He comes like a like the sound of a mighty rushing wind. He comes like a fire that rests on every single person, symbolizing the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in every person's life. The gospel then is proclaimed by those people, and Peter in particular. He gets up and he preaches a message, and it is a message that Jesus has been crucified. Jesus has been raised from the dead. He is now Lord and Messiah, and that people should repent and believe in him. And the Bible says that there was this huge response to the gospel, not to Peter as a person, not to a personality, but to the power of the gospel.”

#ReachTheLost
“Let me give you the five things and the five habits of a healthy church. Number one, a healthy church reaches. A healthy church reaches, that is we evangelize our mission field. The bookends of this passage that I read, it begins with evangelism, with sharing the gospel and seeing people saved. It ends with sharing the gospel and seeing people saved. The Bible says that on that day that Peter preached, there were about 3,000 people who believe the gospel, who were added to the church. That day, 3,000 people. That's phenomenal.”

#BiblicalPurpose
“We don't get to make up the purpose of the church. It's given to us in the Bible. And so I think this message could be really a helpful reminder for a lot of you. But it also for if you're new here, and welcome, we're really glad you came. But if you are, you probably need to know what our church is all about. I mean, I I've visited churches on vacation or gone on trips, I'm like, I wonder what this church is really all about. You know? Well, this Sunday morning, you get the unique opportunity maybe just like to hear it really straightforwardly about what is it that we do. And we're going to talk about the five habits of a healthy church. There are five things that healthy churches do, and they are revealed to us in Acts chapter two. It's what the first church did. It is the pattern that they established.”
41s
#BiblicalGenerosity
“They're just serving one another. And they serve one another not only with their time and their talent, but they serve one another with their treasure, the with the resources that they had. When you look at this passage, people say, well, you know what? What they did was they they kinda pooled all their stuff together, and then they took care of one another. And some people would look at that and say, well, that looks a lot like socialism. Let me help you that biblical generosity has nothing to do with socialism. You see, socialism is about a government that confiscates what you have so that it can equally dole out misery to everybody.”
