#GodsWordNotPerformance
“``But I wanna give you this point, and this is why the word of God has to be preached whether we have lived it perfectly or not, is this, is that the standard of righteousness is not based on our past failure or our present success. It is based on God's word. Right? So that means parents, we strive to communicate God's word even if we have blown it in the past ourselves. Amen? And so David, again, should have gone to Amnon and said, Amnon, you did this terrible sin. And, yes, I know that I have made terrible mistakes. Everybody in the kingdom knows about it. But I'm telling you this, this is not of the will of God, and we have to deal with this in the same way that I had to deal with it in my life, we have to deal with it in your life.”

#ForgiveDontCondone
“And there's this when I when I talk about should Absalom have forgiven Amnon, it's hard for us because we think, no. Like, he did something that is so wicked. And if Absalom just forgives it, then it's like he is saying that what he did is okay. And we had this idea where if we say, if I forgive somebody, then I'm essentially condoning it, or I am sweeping it under the rug, or I'm pretending like it's okay that this happened. And guys, I'll tell you, just by giving forgiveness, you are not condoning it, you are not saying it's okay, but what you are saying is, I refuse to let this eat me up on the inside. I'm gonna give it to God and let God deal with it. Amen?”

#LustNotLove
“Amnon loves Tamar, the sister of Absalom. We're gonna see that this word love is really not a great word. Our English words fail us when we when we read the word love there. It's not love at all. It is actually lust. It is lust because it is not self giving, agape love that wants to lay down his life to better somebody else. No. It is a taking lust that will ultimately seek to devour and consume her.”

#FastForwardTheTape
“Remember last weekend, I said that temptation wants to show you the pleasure and hide all the consequences? And I said the the the best strategy is fast forward the tape. Look at the consequences when you're in this moment of, should I go down this road of temptation? Fast forward the tape. Look at the consequences. And when you look at the consequences square in the face, you realize this is not worth this. This will destroy my life. And so what she's trying to do is she's trying to fast forward the tape. She's trying to say, Amnon, I know you're tempted in this moment, but if you do this, you will destroy my life. I will be covered in shame my whole life, and you will be seen as a fool in all of Israel for the rest of your life. Amnon, do not do this. This is what awaits you. She's trying to sober him up a little bit.”

#PursueJusticeNotVengeance
“And so as believers, what are we called to do? We are called to pray for justice. We are called to, in a legal way, fight for justice. What Absalom really should have done, you say, okay. Well, what should he have done if David did nothing? What he should have done is he should have gone to the king and said, dad, I know this is your firstborn son, but he violated. He committed this heinous crime, and according to the law, this is how he is to be tried. It's okay to fight and to stand up for justice. Amen? Oftentimes, that is what we need to do as believers is to stand up for justice. We don't take it into our own hands.”

#LearnToHateEvil
“Right? We see its effects. We see how it destroys people's lives, and that we could learn to hate evil. And so if you have notes, number one, I just wrote it this way, that stories about wickedness, especially in the Bible, should help us learn to hate and to fear the Lord. And now you might not like that word hate, and you say, I don't wanna come to church and learn about hate that we should that we're called to hate. Let me tell you, we're not called to hate people, we are called to love people. Right? The Bible says that we should be known by our love. And so as Christians, we don't wanna be known as hateful people, but it is okay for us to hate evil in itself.”

#DontRomanticizeWickedness
“Right? And so Hollywood and these stories are very slick. And if we're not careful, we can get good and evil confused, and we end up rooting for the wrong side. And so a story like this that is full of wickedness, the thing that if you say, why would the Holy Spirit allow just a story of wickedness to be in the Bible? Is for this, that we would learn to hate evil.”

#HateEvilLovePeople
“Right? That we don't hate sinful people or people that are broken, and we don't express our worldview by going out and saying, we hate everything that this world is about. That's not what we do. But in our heart, the bible says that we ought to hate evil in the sense that we are to say, Lord, this is disgusting in your eyes, and, Lord, may it be disgusting in my eyes. Right? Full of love in our interactions, but a a firm saying, Lord, I am not going to smile and pretend like evil is okay. Amen? So we're gonna read these stories. They're full of wickedness, not for entertainment, but to say, Lord, would you help me to stay as far away from this as possible? Let's pray.”
