Bible Reading
- Isaiah 35:1–10
Observation Questions
- In Isaiah 35:1–2, what images of nature signal God’s “great reversal” (desert, flowers, singing, glory)? What do these images tell us about God’s heart and power?
- In Isaiah 35:3–4, who is being addressed, and what are God’s people called to do and say? What promise anchors these commands?
- In Isaiah 35:5–7, which human conditions are reversed (blindness, deafness, lameness, muteness), and what changes in the landscape mirror that healing?
- One picture used for hard seasons was a “hotel of disappointment.” What simple practices were named for strengthening each other there—listening, a meal, practical help, hopeful words?
[41:06]Interpretation Questions
- Joy is described as God’s presence in the middle of pain, not the erasing of pain. How does the picture of faithful people “in the furnace” help us understand that claim?
[35:38]- Isaiah calls God’s people to “strengthen weak hands” and “say to anxious hearts, ‘Be strong; fear not.’” What does this reveal about how God often cares for His people—through His people? Where might that challenge comfortable, private approaches to faith?
[41:06]- “Do not fear” in Isaiah 35:4 is anchored in a promise: “He will come and save you.” How does the saving work of Jesus—bearing our sin and breaking death’s hold—turn courage from sentiment into trust in a Person?
[42:59]- Israel waited decades before Cyrus opened the way home. What might God be forming in His people during long waits, and how can delayed answers deepen joy rather than drain it?
[45:05]Application Questions
- Where are you “checked into the hotel of disappointment” right now? Who is one person you could knock on this week, and what small act will you bring—listening, soup, a ride, a hug, a hopeful word?
[41:06]- Name one “furnace” you feel stuck in (work, health, family, grief). What would it look like to look for Jesus’ presence there this week, not just an exit? Be specific about one prayer you will pray and one step you will take.
[35:38]- What fear is speaking the loudest today? How will you answer it with, “He will come and save you”—through a concrete prayer, a phone call you’ve been avoiding, or an act of obedience you’ve delayed?
[42:59]- Where are you waiting for a turnaround that feels late? If you were to “stake everything on the Lord” in that area this month, what would that practically mean—time set aside, a financial decision, confession, asking for help, or choosing patience?
[45:05]- Tuning the heart to “Christ FM”: what one habit is detuning your heart (endless scrolling, cynicism, overwork)? What one practice will help you hear His love more clearly this week (Scripture, silence, worship, serving)? Name the day and time you’ll start.
[50:42]- Walking the Highway of Holiness: what is a simple next step on that road for you this week (forgiving, telling the truth, peacemaking, generosity)? What “lion” or “ravenous beast” (fear, shame, addiction) do you need to hand to Jesus as you walk?
