“Because it's not how much faith you have, it's who you put your faith in. It's not how impressive your surrender is, it's who you're surrendering to. And it's not about perfecting the practice. The practice was never the power. The power is God. So maybe the prayer that begins this entire series needs to be incredibly simple. Holy Spirit, we need you. Before we sing another song, Holy Spirit, we need you. Before we make one more decision, Holy Spirit, we need you. Before we try to fix our families, Holy Spirit, we need you. And before we try to change ourselves, Holy Spirit, we need you. Before we try to reach our community, Holy Spirit, we need you.”

“Surrender says, God, I don't know what you're gonna do with this, but I do know who you are. So maybe you're surrendering your future or your marriage or your child. Maybe it's your career. Maybe it's a dream that you've had, but it's a situation you've been desperately trying to control. And surrender isn't saying, I know this will turn out exactly the way that I want it to. Surrender is saying, I trust the one that I'm giving it to. You're giving it to a father who loves you, to Jesus who gave himself for you, to a God who sees tomorrow when you can only see today. So maybe surrender isn't. God, look at this huge thing I'm giving you. Maybe surrender is simply, God, you have me.”

“Some of you might have come into this room today with some shaky faith. You believe that you're struggling. You're trusting, but you're afraid. You know God is good, but you don't understand what he's doing. And maybe your prayer today is simply, I believe, help my unbelief because that is faith. Faith doesn't mean that I'm certain about the outcome. Faith means I'm anchored to God when I cannot see the outcome.”
