Delighting in Christ: The Beauty of Transformation
Devotional
Day 1: Faith-Filled Obedience as a Fragrant Offering
Our good deeds, when born out of faith, are not just actions but are seen as a fragrant offering to God. This is not because of their inherent perfection but because they are acts of faith-filled obedience. God delights in His people, not just in their actions, because they reflect the image of His Son. This delight is rooted in His joy in Jesus Christ, who is the image of His glory. Our conformity to the image of Christ is what makes us delightful to God. This transformation is not just for our benefit but also for Christ, who is to have a beautiful bride, the Church, presented in splendor without blemish. [13:42]
"For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?" (2 Corinthians 2:15-16, ESV)
Reflection: Think of a recent action you took that was motivated by faith. How can you continue to offer your daily actions as a fragrant offering to God?
Day 2: Transformation into Christ's Image
God's delight in His people is rooted in His delight in His Son, Jesus Christ. Our transformation into the image of Christ is what makes us delightful to God. This transformation is not just for our benefit but also for Christ, who is to have a beautiful bride, the Church, presented in splendor without blemish. This process of transformation is ongoing and requires us to continually seek to reflect Christ in our lives. [16:37]
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you actively pursue transformation into the image of Christ today? What specific steps can you take to reflect His character more fully?
Day 3: The Paradox of the Cross
The cross is the ultimate display of God's complex emotional life, where His hatred for sin and His joy in the sacrifice of His Son converge. The death of Jesus was both the most beautiful and the most horrific event in history. It was beautiful because it was an act of obedience and love, fragrant to God. Yet, it was horrific because it was the greatest sin, the murder of the Son of God. This paradox is essential for the gospel to be a saving gospel. Jesus willingly endured the forsaking displeasure of the Father, making His death pleasing to God and achieving our salvation. [23:36]
"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV)
Reflection: How does understanding the paradox of the cross deepen your appreciation for the gospel? How can you live in a way that honors the sacrifice of Jesus today?
Day 4: The Splendor of Holiness
The splendor of the redeemed Church lies in her blemish-free holiness, being supremely satisfied with Christ. Sin is the preference of anything above God, and to be free from it is our splendor. Christ's death purchased this beauty for us, and it is brought to pass by the love of the Father for the Son becoming our love for the Son. In the age to come, God's delight in the Son will become our delight, completing the beauty of the Church and filling the universe with God's glory. [29:50]
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you are placing something above God? How can you realign your priorities to reflect the splendor of holiness?
Day 5: Our Ultimate Hope in Christ
In the age to come, God's delight in the Son will become our delight, completing the beauty of the Church and filling the universe with God's glory. This transformation is not left to our own capacities but is made possible by the Spirit. Our ultimate hope is that God's delight in the Son becomes our delight in the Son. This hope is not just for the future but is something we can begin to experience now as we grow in our relationship with Christ. [33:17]
"Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is." (1 John 3:2, ESV)
Reflection: How can you cultivate a deeper delight in Christ today? What practices can you incorporate into your life to align your heart with God's delight in His Son?

Sermon Clips
In our journey of faith, we are reminded that our good deeds, born out of faith in Christ, are a fragrant offering to God, pleasing and acceptable in His sight. God delights not only in the actions of His people but in His people themselves. This delight is rooted in His joy in His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the image of His glory. [00:13:22]
The deepest root of that Delight in his people is God's Delight in his son, the image of his glory, the person with his own name because what makes his people delightful is their Conformity to the image of the sun. Romans 8:28 9 Those whom he fornew he predestined to be conformed to the image of his son. [00:15:00]
God intends for the son to have a beautiful bride that is to present the church to Christ in splendor without a spot or a wrinkle or any such thing so Conformity to the glory of the sun is the most Splendid BL beauty that there could be, and therefore that's what the bride will have. [00:16:06]
The Cross of Christ, the foundation of the Gospel without which we would be undone so number eight lastly God rejoices in the sacrifice of his son in the place of Sinners Isaiah 53:10 is perhaps the most explicit statement of God's heart at the point of the death of his son. [00:18:24]
The Lord was pleased to crush him he has put him to grief when his soul makes an offering for Guilt he shall see his offspring he shall prolong his days the good pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand now this is a a seminary chapel and therefore I will expose myself to your assessment. [00:19:10]
What does fragrant mean fragrant to whom not Herod not pilate not even to the disciples and until they learn from Ephesians to imitate God Jesus knew it would be fragrant to his father that is pleasing well pleasing he knew it would be fragrant to his father because he said in John 10:17. [00:21:10]
The father he knows the father is going to look upon the horrific laying down of the life of the Son of God and say I love you for this this is beautiful this is fragrant which is why when he breathed his last Jesus said Luke 23:46 father into your hands I commit my spirit. [00:22:04]
Therefore God has highly exalted him because he was obedient unto death even death on the horrific cross therefore I celebrate this event my son obeyed me to the end that is beautiful and I find it fragrant that was the most beautiful most glorious most excellent act in the history of the world. [00:22:43]
What becomes plain at the cross is that both the hatred of God for sin and his joy in the death of his son for Sinners are both essential for the gospel to be a saving gospel not only because sins are abounding around Jesus but also because they are being laid on Jesus. [00:25:34]
The Splendor of the redeemed Church her Splendor in the verse is her blemish free Holiness that is her Splendor is to be free from all sin and all of its effects what is sin sin is the exchanging of the glory of God for the glory of the creation Romans 1:23 and 32. [00:29:21]
The beauty of the bride of Christ consists most essentially in being supremely satisfied with her husband the Son of God now one last question having purchased that greatest of all gifts that most beautiful of all beauties for his people how does God bring it to pass in the church. [00:30:39]
It happens when the love with which The Father loves the son becomes our love for the son it happens when in the age to come God's Delight in the sun becomes by the spirit our Delight in the Sun and we're not left to our poultry capacities to enjoy God what a tragedy that would be. [00:32:43]
