72s
“``And your sin is not greater than the mercy and the grace of the Lord. If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus he does not look at you for your past but he looks at you being clothed in the very righteousness of his son. This is the God that loves you, who is merciful and gracious. You can delight in this God because it's not it's not a relationship to earn things from him, but rather to receive his mercy and his grace. You can delight in God because you don't have to earn his love it has been freely given to you. You can delight in this God that knows you're going to mess up tomorrow. And he's still going to love you. You can come to him as a child would to a father. Father, I messed up. I need help because of his great love and his mercy will pursue you.”

“The song of God's people to God is of God's faithfulness, of God's mercy, of God's love, knowing what we're going to do. You can delight in the Lord because he's not surprised by your sin. You can delight in the Lord because he knows you. He knows that corner of your heart and that thing in your passage you're trying to cover up and you're trying to pretend like it doesn't still have power over you. God knows all of that and he loves you and he pursues you.”

“Now hear me, God's law is downstream from his grace. Sometimes we can get it in our mind that we have to obey God's law if we're going to get God's grace, which is antithetical to how we need to understand grace. Grace is God giving us things that we have not deserved. Where does God's law come? It comes after God delivered the nation of Israel out of Egypt. After he has delivered them and shown them that grace, then he gives them God's law. God's law are these guardrails on how we are to live, both in relationship with God and relationship with man. This is the same for us Christians. All the laws are not the same, but still God has given us guardrails on how we might live in relationship. Because obedience to God's law, to God's word comes because of a relationship that we have with him. God delivered Israel out of Egypt and then he says this is how you must live.”

“They received the blessing of the promised land and they became fat and delighted themselves just in the gift and not in the giver of the gift. And so just a question to ask you. With all the blessings the Lord has given you, have you maybe soured or squandered them by focusing more on the gift than the one who has given it to you? When you do that, your faith and your relationship with the Lord becomes transactional. More like a mathematical equation that you need to do these things and obey in these ways so that God will give you these things. that's the basis of your relationship with the Lord, then then you're one who is focusing on the gift and not the giver of the gift.”
