46s
“Who can forgive sins but God himself? Forgiveness always belongs to the offended party. Like, I have no right to forgive traffic tickets. I can try, but it doesn't really do anything. Right? So when Jesus says your sins against God are forgiven, Jesus is either crazy or he's making a claim so audacious that it would have shaken the house harder than a hole in the roof. What he says is, you have sinned against God, and that's me, and I choose to forgive you, which is why they're furious. Because the question in the room is now, who does this guy think he is?”
32s
“So Jesus does heal. He does that for us sometimes too. Sometimes he does, like, fulfill what we pray for, but that's not the point of the story. The legs in the story aren't the point. They're the proof. Jesus is saying, if you want evidence that I could that I have the authority to forgive sins, watch this. Then verse 12. I want you to think about verse 12. This amazed everybody, and they praised God. Look what they said. We have never seen anything like this.”
