It is not enough to simply attend church or participate in communal worship; each believer is called to cultivate a personal, daily relationship with God that goes beyond routine and ritual. In the quiet moments when you are alone, away from the noise and distractions of life, you are invited to encounter God intimately, to worship, praise, and thank Him from the depths of your heart. This personal connection is vital for spiritual health and cannot be replaced by technology or busyness. Take time each day to be with God, to speak with Him, and to listen for His voice, for it is in these moments that your soul is truly nourished and refreshed. [02:23]
Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflection: What is one specific way you can set aside time today to be alone with God, free from distractions, and simply be in His presence?
Worship is not confined to the church building or to formal prayers; it is meant to permeate every aspect of daily life. Whether you are waking up, preparing for your day, or winding down at night, you are invited to offer simple words of gratitude and praise to God. These moments of worship, even in the midst of ordinary routines, open your heart to God’s presence and sustain you through every challenge. Begin and end your day with thanksgiving, acknowledging God’s goodness and inviting Him to be with you always. [08:09]
Psalm 92:1-2 (ESV)
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.
Reflection: What is the first thing you say or think when you wake up? How can you intentionally make your first and last words each day words of praise and gratitude to God?
When you cultivate a personal relationship with God, you experience a peace that surpasses understanding, regardless of the circumstances you face. This peace is not dependent on outward situations but flows from the assurance that God is with you, embracing you with His love and presence. Just as a loving friend or family member can comfort you with a silent embrace, so too does God comfort and strengthen you when you draw near to Him in trust and worship. [10:37]
Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Reflection: In what area of your life do you most need God’s peace today, and how can you invite Him into that area through prayer and trust?
Just as the deer instinctively seeks out streams of water to quench its thirst, so our souls are created to long for God’s presence. This deep spiritual thirst can only be satisfied by seeking God intentionally, making time to be refreshed by His Spirit. God has given us the ability and the desire to find Him, and when we pursue Him, we find the living water that renews and sustains us. Recognize your soul’s longing and respond by drawing near to God, who is always ready to meet you. [16:43]
Psalm 42:1-2 (ESV)
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Reflection: When do you most feel a longing or thirst for God? What practical step can you take today to seek Him and be refreshed by His presence?
A vibrant personal relationship with God not only transforms your own life but also radiates outward, impacting your community, workplace, and family. When you are filled with God’s Spirit and refreshed by His presence, you bring a contagious energy, love, and joy to those around you. Sometimes, it is not your words but your actions and attitude that reveal Christ to others. Share the energy and love you receive from God by being present, loving, and encouraging to those you encounter today. [21:25]
Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Reflection: Who is one person you will encounter today that could be encouraged or uplifted by the energy and love you receive from your relationship with God? How will you intentionally share that with them?
In the midst of our busy, technology-driven lives, it is easy to lose sight of the most vital relationship we have—the one with God. While gathering together as a church community is a beautiful and necessary part of our faith, it is not enough to sustain us. True spiritual vitality comes from a personal, daily connection with Christ, one that is cultivated in the quiet moments when we are alone with Him. Just as a deer instinctively seeks out streams of water to quench its thirst, our souls are wired to long for the living water that only God can provide.
It is not uncommon, even among clergy and devout believers, to find that personal intimacy with Christ is lacking. We may go through the motions—attending services, singing hymns, reciting prayers—yet neglect the simple act of worshiping God privately, outside the structure of communal worship. The distractions of modern life, especially our constant engagement with technology, can easily crowd out these moments of solitude with God. Yet, it is in these private times—whether in the early morning, during daily routines, or before sleep—that we can truly open our hearts to Him, offer our thanks, and receive His peace.
This relationship is not about following a formula or having the right words; it is about a genuine desire to be with God, to praise Him, to thank Him, and to let Him refresh our souls. The Psalms remind us that our souls thirst for God as the deer pants for water. We have been given the spiritual instinct and intelligence to know where to find this living water. The challenge is to seek it intentionally, to make space in our lives for God to fill us, recharge us, and empower us to bring His love and energy into our communities.
When we nurture this personal relationship, it transforms not only our own lives but also the life of the church and the world around us. Our worship becomes more vibrant, our love more genuine, and our witness more powerful. The invitation is simple yet profound: seek the Lord, drink deeply of His presence, and let His Spirit refresh and empower you daily.
Psalm 42:1 — _As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God._
When we gather with the people of God on Sunday, we are celebrating. We are rejoicing. We are singing together like we are doing this morning here, beautiful hymns and songs that will recharge momentarily every aspect of our humanity. But as clergymen and deacons in every diocese, I may say, in the whole world, we need more than that. And we need to teach this to the people of God also. [00:01:36] (32 seconds)
Coming to church on Sunday is the most beautiful thing because you are not alone anymore. You are with a community of believers, with the faithful that are seeking and going the same way, walking with you towards Christ. Beautiful. But what about when we are alone? What about when we are with nobody? What about when we are the real being facing God? [00:02:07] (27 seconds)
We pay too much attention to a bunch of stuff that are good i mean cell phones and computers and all that is good i mean we can rely on on on those things uh for many many many many many purposes but what about as i mentioned our personal relationship with the one that doesn't need a cell phone to be reached out or to reach out to us [00:05:23] (28 seconds)
How many of you take time to worship Him? How many of us will take time, five, four, three, two times a day to say, thank you, Lord, I love you. Thank you, Lord. It's beautiful to come to church and do morning prayer or evening prayer. It's beautiful to come to church and sing and listening to Father Michael's sermons and participate in every aspect of the liturgy. It's beautiful. But that's in common. But privately, you and God alone, it is important. It is important for you and for me to keep that online connection active. and it's free. [00:07:11] (49 seconds)
We were created to praise Him. It's in the Psalms. And sometimes we are not paying attention to that because, I mean, you can hear all the excuses. I can hear all the excuses, but it is so simple, so easy to do just to praise Him, just to thank Him for waking you up every morning. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [00:08:09] (29 seconds)
This is why being in this particular connection with God on a daily basis is so important. Because regardless of your day, when you are worshiping Him, when you are praising Him, when you are adoring Him, when you are in full relationship with Him, regardless of what the day will bring, you will experience His peace. He'll be with you. [00:10:30] (29 seconds)
As the deer thirsts for the waters and for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. And that was the image and the psalm that put the whole conference in perspective. [00:16:30] (21 seconds)
Do everything in your power to get connected, to get on that line which is free and to enjoy the freshness and the sweetness of the waters of that river that flows from the hand and the heart of God. And you can only will do that in your personal time with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. And that good Lord is going to open all His heart. It's going to refresh you. [00:19:27] (34 seconds)
When you come to church, the liturgy will be three times better when you are in a personal relationship with God. You know why? Because that energy that you're ready to receive from Him will be projected here. And the people will say, wow, that church was powerful this morning. [00:21:25] (24 seconds)
Bring that energy into your society bring that energy into your job sometimes you don't need to preach sometimes you have to be you and behave different and love the people in a different way and correct the people lovingly why because you are in a personal relationship with god and you don't know you you know me when i am being touched by by a song and i've been touched by this this song this morning that i just want to cry when i heard it because i need those waters on a daily basis [00:21:54] (43 seconds)
