Proverbs 3 starts plain: “Be not wise in thine own eyes. Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” God’s wisdom has already been given in Christ and in the Word, but self wisdom keeps people hanging around what God told them to leave. The Corinthians show why correction is needed, because carnality can make church people act like the world while claiming the promises of God.
Second Corinthians 5 says that if One died for all, then all died. Christ’s death did not merely secure heaven someday. Christ’s death put an end to living for self, so that those who live should live unto Him who died and rose again. The old life cannot keep calling the shots when Christ has already crucified it.
Romans 6 presses the matter down into daily life. Believers must reckon themselves dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God, then refuse to let sin reign in their mortal bodies. The body, the eyes, ears, mouth, mind, heart, hands, and feet become instruments either of unrighteousness or righteousness, depending on what they are yielded to. A dead man cannot be easily offended, because a corpse does not answer back from the casket. Offense keeps showing that self is still trying to live.
Galatians 2 declares, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live.” Christ now lives in the believer, and the life being lived in the flesh is the resurrected life of Christ on this side of the cross. Yesterday cannot be changed, but repentance can turn a person toward God today. Today is the day to die to self, quit rehearsing old failures, get up, and live unto God.
Galatians 5 gives the practical way forward: walk in the Spirit, and the lust of the flesh will not be fulfilled. Flesh screaming does not mean flesh must rule. The answer is not simply trying harder to quit sinning, but pursuing God, doing the Father’s business, and letting the Spirit direct the life.
Second Peter 1 calls believers into the divine nature through the knowledge of God. God’s divine power has already given all things that pertain unto life and godliness, but precious promises must be received, obtained, and walked out. Faith must grow into virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Christ owns those bought with His blood, and a life yielded to Him cannot lose out.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Consider yourself dead to sin Christ’s death counts as the believer’s death to the old rule of sin. This does not deny the flesh still screams or temptation still comes. This means sin no longer has a rightful throne in the mortal body, because Christ has given a new life unto God. [14:13]
- 2. Live unto God every day Today is not merely another chance to worry over yesterday’s failures. Today is the day to reckon the old man dead and to live unto God in the present. Christ’s resurrection life calls believers forward instead of leaving them trapped in old memories and wrong decisions. [15:14]
- 3. Walk in the Spirit first The flesh cannot be defeated by fleshly effort alone. The Spirit redirects desire by filling life with Christ, God’s Word, and the Father’s business. Walking in the Spirit does more than restrain outward behavior because it changes what the heart is yielded to. [41:41]
- 4. Pursue God above every other thing God’s promises are not bait for a self centered life. God brings provision, direction, relationships, and blessing into proper order when He is pursued first. Anything placed alongside God as equal becomes an idol, because no person can serve two masters. [52:04]
- 5. Partake of God’s divine nature God’s divine nature is faithful, holy, loving, considerate, and not selfish. God has given precious promises so believers can escape the corruption that comes through lust. Spiritual growth requires diligence, because faith must become a fruitful life rather than remain only a quoted doctrine.
