Dance Into Your Second Chance and New Season

Second Samuel 6 brings David back to the ark, back to the presence, back to the thing that had been sitting too long in the enemy’s camp. David had the right intention the first time, but he handled a sacred thing in a secular way. God was not mad that David wanted the ark back. God dealt with the way David tried to move holy things with methods picked up from the wrong place.

David’s second chance becomes the sound of the shift. David already knew how to do it right, and the second time did not need new instructions. God gave space for David to return, gather the singers, call the dancers, bring the band, and move with gladness. The dance becomes more than motion. The dance becomes a declaration that last season’s mistake does not get to cancel this season’s obedience.

David dances as a king, but he puts on the ephod like a praise and worship leader. His position is king, but his expression shifts into worship. Every six paces, David stops and sacrifices. Every six steps, something has to die. The flesh cannot go untouched when the presence is coming back into place. Desire, heaviness, old appetites, and soul issues have to be killed again and again and again, consecutively, consistently, and repetitively.

The ark represents the presence, not God Himself. God never left, even when His presence was misplaced. That is grace and mercy right there. God stayed God through the wrong houses, wrong beds, wrong decisions, and wrong seasons. In His presence is fullness of joy, and David is not just bringing furniture into a tent. David is bringing joy back to the people.

The ephod cannot handle the next dimension David is dancing into. The old garment starts coming off because the old season cannot fit the new one. For the spirit of heaviness, there is a garment of praise. No more heaviness means the praiser has to respond before heaviness settles in again.
