Just as a building’s stability depends on precise placement of its first stone, our lives reveal misalignment when Christ isn’t the reference point. Compromises in values, fractured relationships, or fading purpose expose a foundation not anchored to Him. The solution isn’t cosmetic repairs but returning to the One who sets every angle of our existence straight. [05:17]

Christ stands as the crucial cornerstone, the essential stone, the stone that cannot be left out, moved over, or replaced. The crooked church building shows what happens when the first stone is treated like a small thing. The walls may go up, the roof may look right for a while, and people may ride by and admire the progress, but if the cornerstone is off, the whole building is off.

Paul’s word about Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone declares that Christ sets the whole life in line. The cornerstone sets the angle, the direction, and the straightness of the structure. Christ is not a decorative stone, not a convenience stone, not a Sunday go to meeting stone. Psalm 48 calls for a witness to the generations following, and that means life in Christ becomes a spiritual legacy. Children, spouses, coworkers, and even so-called friends ought to see that Christ lives in the believer.

Peter calls Christ elect and precious, the one rejected by men but chosen and exalted by God. Christ secures identity when culture, approval, labels, and emotions keep shifting. Christ secures the future when storms, seasons, and struggles try to shake hope loose. The stone the builders refused has become the headstone of the corner, and what others dismissed, God established. Christ is not just a cornerstone. Christ is the crucial cornerstone, and if life is leaning, shaking, and patched up with cosmetics, the answer is not more paint. The answer is surrender, tearing down what is crooked, and starting again with Jesus at the foundation.
