You Are a Cornerstone: Grounded by Faithful Ancestors

The ring, the album, and the old friend all become grounding points. The ring sits on a hand as something physical and tangible, a reminder that love and care are not just ideas floating around somewhere. The album brings back the truth of who a person is, who God is, and who a person is to God. The friend from middle school carries memory, honesty, and the kind of knowing that helps a soul feel restored and more itself again.

Isaiah speaks to people whose lives have been turned upside down. The people in exile are facing chaos, uncertainty, and all the things that make a person wonder what is still solid. Isaiah gives them words to hold onto: “Look to the rock from which you were hewn and the quarry from which you were dug.” The rock and the quarry point them back to their source, back to the story and people that formed them, back to the God who has not stopped being faithful.

Sarah and Abraham stand in that quarry as living reminders of God’s promise. Their old age made the promise seem impossible, and yet God brought a nation from them. God makes ordinary faithful lives into cornerstones for someone else. God shares promise, renewal, faithfulness, compassion, love, and forgiveness through people right where they are.
