#CommunityHeals
“An ironic twist of life is that we are usually hurt by community, but it is only in community that we find healing. Some of life's greatest hurts come out of relationships with others, and yet the greatest healing happens in community as well. James talks about healing in the context of community. He says, are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.”

#TransformedInCommunity
“So we're designed for community, and we're saved into community. But here's the thing. Once we're a part of this community, we realize that the journey's only just begun. Because God doesn't want us to stay spoiled brats. He wants to transform He wants to reshape us, reform us from being the spoilt brat into being a person of love, a person who's just like Jesus, someone who can truly demonstrate who he is to the world around them. And he does this in community as well because we are healed in community.”

#HumansNeedCommunity
“And so the main thing that causes them to tap out isn't hunger, typically. It isn't thirst, typically. It isn't injury or illness. On the most part, they can survive months and months. The the major thing that makes them tap out is loneliness. They miss their spouse. They miss their kids. They miss their loved ones. They miss their community. It turns out that humans can last a lot longer without decent food than we can without community.”

#CreatedForCommunity
“So why is community so important? Why do we need to talk about community? What is this all about? Well, firstly, we are designed for community. We're designed for community. Christie, this morning, explained that sometimes when we have these big questions about our purpose, our identity, what what is a human being, what what are humans meant to do, we need to start right at the start. We need to go all the way back to the beginning, and and we do this quite regularly at Dora Phobe, and we we remind ourselves that we are created in the image of God.”

#ImperfectChurchRealLove
“In other words, we may have this idea in our minds of what the church should be. This perfect ideal utopian idea of what the perfect church, what the church should do, what the church should believe, how the church should be structured and led, and all the rest. But if we love that dream of the church more than we love the church and the community that he has put us in, we can actually be at risk of destroying that community. We will give up on it. We will keep chasing after the dream. The dream that's kinda impossible.”

#BornIntoFamily
“The miracle of salvation is more than just the love of God and the mercy of God and the grace and the forgiveness, but it's also the community that we are saved into. When we make the decision to accept what Jesus has done for us and we make the decision to follow his way instead of our own way, he places us in a special new community. New Testament refers to this as being born again. And so just like we are born into a family, we are spiritually reborn into a spiritual family.”

#FamilyOfFaith
“They welcomed everybody in as family. They even shared their houses, even shared their possessions as if they were blood relatives. And, actually, in a way, when we accept Jesus, we become blood relatives, brothers and sisters because of the blood of Jesus. Paul uses brothers and sisters kind of language a lot in the New Testament, but he also expands on this even further calling us children of God co heirs with Christ. In Romans chapter eight, he says the spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.”

#AgainstHyperIndividualism
“And this is where the hyper radical individualization society in our current moment in culture is quite dangerous. A lot of the time in our culture at the moment, we celebrate individual achievement. We celebrate individualism. And you would have heard this before. You can do it. You don't need anybody else. Don't let anybody else tell you who you can be. Don't let anybody else hold you back. You can do it. We lift up individuals as heroes. We see that as the most impressive thing.”
