Paul opens 1 Thessalonians 3 with a heart that cannot bear not knowing what is happening in Thessalonica. Paul had only been with these believers a short time, but his love was not surface level. His words matched his actions, and his care moved into action. Paul wanted their faith to be concrete, not tossed to and fro, not like a little sprout with no roots, but fixed firmly in Christ.

The gospel in this passage is not treated like something a person hears once and then walks away from. I want you to establish you. These like, when you see in a a windy area, like, some of these places that have great winds, you get to see the trees grow deep, deep, deep roots so they are not pushed over easily. You and I, during life, we're gonna have to do the same. Our roots are gonna have to go in Christ. We're we're gonna face opposition, and when it comes, we needed to have depth to it. Like the parable of the sower, if you only have these little sprouts that come out at the bottom, when these things, the crisis of life comes, you're gonna fall. That's why he says go deep.”

“Sometimes in the heat of battles, hardships, we can stop and think, where's god in all of this? Why is this occurring? Why is this happening to me right now? And it could've caused even in this church of Thessalonica, for believers to walk away or or be unsettled in their faith. It can unsettle us in our faith because we think, wow. I I don't understand. I've been serving you. I've been this, and this is what happens? Maybe Christ is trying to grow us. Maybe he's trying to weed some stuff out of our lives. Paul's desire that was in spite of these sufferings, these believers would stand firm. And and even in this suffering, it would serve to deepen their faith. That's what it does when we hold on. When we seek Christ, when we don't lean on our own understanding, that's what happens. We we begin to become stronger because we're looking at Christ, and we're not looking at the problem any longer. I can tell you, the more I focus on my problems, especially if I get one little thought in the middle of the night, man, for hours on end, it's got me awake because it grew. I allowed it to grow.”
