Cleansed Through His Word - Pastor Irik Archie (08/30/26)

The life found in Christ is not a downgrade from the old club life, party life, drinking, smoking, anger, and bondage. Christ upgrades a life that sin deceives people into calling freedom, because He opens prison doors for souls that have finally cried out to Him. The soul longs for what money, relationships, and anything in this earth realm cannot give. Jesus Christ alone frees the bound person and gives life that supersedes the old way.

God’s Word cleanses more than outward behavior because it comes as spirit and life. The Word does not merely visit a person from time to time, but God desires to make the vessel His home and abode. The Word, when received and allowed to remain, begins changing desires from the inside. Old pursuits start losing their pull because God is producing something new in the heart.

Peter says souls are purified by obeying the truth through the Spirit, not simply by hearing truth. The Spirit gives the power to obey what God reveals, and obedience lets the Word do its cleansing work. Truth received but not obeyed leaves a person unchanged, even if that person stays around church, Bible college, or religious activity. The stony-ground heart can receive the Word with joy while still refusing to let God remove the stones that keep the root shallow.

James calls for moral filth to be put away and for the implanted Word to be received with humility. The mirror of the Word shows what is off course, but a person must respond right then instead of walking away and forgetting. Repentance starts in the mind when a person agrees with God and says, “I’m done with that.” Sinful habits, ungodly relationships, lust, drinking, and every repeated temptation must be cut off when God’s Word exposes them.

The psalmist hides God’s Word in the heart so that temptation does not rule the moment of testing. Discipleship requires denial of self because Christ leads and His disciples follow. Unforgiveness, anger, lust, and every “little sin” must be dealt with before the leaven spreads through the whole life. God’s Word purges the soul like a detox, changing not only behavior but appetite.

Christ, the true Vine, prunes fruitful branches so that they bear more fruit. The cutting can hurt, but the Gardener removes what hinders growth and prepares vessels of honor for the Master’s use. Christ gave Himself for His bride so that He might cleanse her by the washing of water through the Word and present her radiant, without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. Faith receives that cleansing and asks God for a heart that obeys.
