Peter stands up on the day the church begins and presents the gospel under the full power of the Holy Spirit. The crowd hears God being glorified in their own languages, and the gospel cuts them to the heart. Peter’s own story gives weight to his words, because Jesus had already found him after his denial, asked him three times, “Do you love me?”, and restored him to fellowship. The gospel does more than inform people. The gospel brings hearts face to face with the love of God and calls for conviction, repentance, and a real response.

The difference between hearing the gospel and receiving the gospel matters. Church activity, volunteering, giving, and showing up can still miss the point if the heart has never been pierced by the Savior’s love. God’s love meets a person at the heart, and a surrendered heart begins to answer that love with trust and fellowship.

Christ also calls His people to live the message, not merely brand themselves with it. A bumper sticker, a Jesus shirt, or a social media post cannot produce the fruit that only abiding can produce. John 15 says a branch cannot bear fruit by itself. The branch has to stay connected to the vine. Patience, joy, faith, and every other fruit of the Spirit come from receiving what Christ gives and then carrying that same grace into homes, workplaces, hardships, temptations, and relationships.

Peter also keeps the gospel simple when he delivers it. Jesus was sent by God, crucified, raised from the dead, and declared both Lord and Messiah. Peter does not depend on tricks, stages, lights, or a polished environment. The gospel itself carries the power, and it was never meant to stop with the people who first received it.

The church must also train others to teach the message. Hearing helps, taking notes helps more, but teaching others presses the Word deeper into the heart. Paul tells Timothy to entrust what he received to faithful people who can teach others also. Jesus gave the gospel to the apostles, the apostles brought it to the church, the church brought it forward, and the next generation must receive it too.

Gratitude should rise when Christ keeps moving through His bride. Three thousand people being saved was not a flex. It was church history, the ongoing work of a loving God who sent His Son so people could have life and fellowship with Him. Baptisms, growing groups, honest community, and changed lives are still acts of the church, and Christ’s people should be pumped to see Him at work.
