#ItIsFinished
“And all his life, Ryan lived with this weight of someone sacrificing for me to live. And did I do enough to earn it? Am I worth it? What I love about our savior and the death of Jesus Christ, his last words were not earn it. His last words were it is finished. I have paid the price. I have given my life for you to know freedom. I've given my life for you to know relationship with me. I've given my life for you to know love. I've given my life for you to know hope. I've given my life for you to know peace. I've given my life so that you could come to me just as you are, and I would redeem you, and I would restore you. What a God we have. It is finished. Not earn it, not strive for it, not try to be good enough. No. It is finished. What a savior we have.”

#DieToSelf
“Here's the thing, while all these things will be byproduct of being in church, we'll be fed, we will grow closer to Jesus. I mean, Google reviews are incredibly helpful at bringing people into church. Can someone say amen? But it was never God's way of seeing the church. It was never God's intention for us to see the church through the lens of self. See God's way of seeing church is the total opposite of individualism. Total opposite about serving self. Jesus made this so clear when we came to earth. He said to follow me is a dying, a laying down of self to find true life. Jesus made it so clear that it was about being consumed by him, not being a consumer.”

#GratefulToServe
“That attitude that started to come in, I know better. I think I should be getting more. I'm entitled to more. Start to get critical of the harvest and how it's being brought in. And it can be very easy for us who've been around a bit to have that same attitude. When it comes to the church, I know better. If I was in charge, I would do it differently. I deserve more recognition. I deserve more pay. When actually, God has called us to come back to that simple truth, what a gift his grace is. What a gift that I have been saved. What a gift that I even get to be part of the harvest. What a gift to have purpose. What a gift to be used by God.”

#ChurchNotAProduct
“And social media now tells us that if we create a platform from self, our popularity will make us happy. If we get that attention, then we'll feel valued and important. And then that we also have the thing at every turn, we're told that we are the main character of the story. Everyone else exists in a supporting role to us for us to achieve our goals and happiness. And in this series that we're in, where we're talking about the church, what we can do is easily bring this thinking into church. That it's about me and Jesus, and the church is there to help us grow closer. The church is there to spiritually feed me, and I view the church through the lens of being a consumer. am I being fed? We do things like do Google reviews on church, rating different churches. Now on social media, rating how a church is. We do things like go church shopping for a church that's going to meet our needs. We keep evaluating the church that we're in based on what it's doing for me, how it's feeding me.”

#BeyondSelf
“Because of our lack of understanding and limited viewpoint, humanity was convinced that we were the centre of the universe. In the same way today, when it comes to who we are, we can easily be fooled into thinking that we self is the center of the universe. That the world evolves around me. That individualism is what this world is built around. I mean, let's be honest. We live in a world that presents that truth to us in so many different ways. It's all about making self happy. It's about following our desires because if you're true to self, then you will find fulfilment. It's about living we live in a culture that is based on consumerism, where everything involves around satisfying the customer. If you don't like a product, a restaurant or service, we leave a Google review and post about it on social media. We have grown accustomed to evaluating everything by this one question, did this make me happy?”

#ContributeDontCritique
“know, one of the greatest heartbreaks, to be honest in ministry, is when those that you've done so much life with, so much building of God's kingdom with, start critiquing his church rather than contributing to it. It can be a challenge when we've been in church for a long time to stay in that posture of grace. And we can end up all of a sudden becoming the expert, critiquing how the harvest should be brought in rather than helping bring the harvest in, critiquing how the word should be shared rather than sharing the word, critiquing how leaders should lead rather than leading ourselves. And please hear me, I'm not actually speaking about a out of personal grievance here because of people's criticism. I ask what you get along the way. It's it's part of it, but I'm speaking about the heart tragedy that comes, that lived experience that comes of seeing so many friends once on fire for God. So many friends once building his church, but criticism has got them to the sidelines.”

#DeclareHisVictory
“You know, when we come together as the church, repeat after repeat, we're declaring his goodness. We're declaring his victory. We're declaring the fact that we have a god that's alive, a God that is on the throne, a God that is for us, a God that loves us, a God that has redeemed us. Come on. We repeat that victory over and over and over and over and over again. And if we're not in church, if we're not doing discipleship with others, come on, we miss out on keeping on coming back to his grace.”

#ExtendGrace
“See, his church is built on grace, but we've got to be careful that we don't leave the posture of grace. Because we're based on grace, it means we forgive each other. It means when we're salty about somebody else, we're called to forgive. Scripture says, If you don't forgive others, your heavenly father will not forgive you because you are not extending the same grace he gave to you to others, so it stops. His grace stops. Come on. If we hold unforgiveness to others, it's not worth it. It's stopping his grace flowing through your life. It's time to sort that out because it's stopping him moving through you.”

#BeTheChurch
“Lord, would you help us be that kind of church? Man, will we open our arms to others? Will we a living representation of your love for others? God, use us, we pray. Use us to impact and change this generation with the reality of Jesus Christ. But church isn't something that we just attend to feel self, not to mission that we are part of to reach the world around us. In Jesus' name. Now what an honor it is that he invites us to be part of his church. What an honor it is that he believes in us that much. What purpose that we can find in his church. And I know that there are people here today in this auditorium, people also joining us online.”

#ChangedByJesus
“Because from that point, I encountered Jesus, and he has radically changed my world. He has brought healing to me that nobody else ever could, and he has helped me to forgive you. And I wanna stand here before you today saying that I forgive you. And this older man was just sobbing as she declared God's goodness and forgiveness in his life, and and I heard that, and there was something that clicked in me. I was like, you know what, God? I wanna be part of building your church. I wanna be part of building what matters, what truly matters, that you are the hope that this world is looking for. That without you, we're just in this cycle of brokenness, and please hear me today. We need incredible Christian psychologists, Christian counselors. We need Christians in every sphere of society because we are the church.”

#AcceptJesusToday
“And if you ought to be honest when I've spoken today about having this personal relationship with Jesus, if you ought to be honest where you are right now with God, you're not working walking personally with him. You haven't yet accepted him to be your Lord and your God. And today, right now, I wanna lead you in a prayer right where you're seated, where you have the opportunity to say, God, I need you. Jesus, I want you to be Lord of my life. Jesus, when you died on that cross for sins, I know that you died for my sin. And I wanna acknowledge that and say that I trust you, and I I wanna lean into you, God, and I want you to transform my life.”

#ChristIsTheFoundation
“See Jesus is saying here to Peter not just that he was gonna be the one to build his church on but the revelation that Peter had would be what the church was built on. That foundation that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. See, it is not about us. It is about the fact that his church is about the resurrected Jesus Christ. That that that Jesus that has come to save humanity from our sins, save us from our brokenness. Save us from going our own way that leads to destruction, and instead turn us to life. Jesus is literally saying here, it's not about you. It's about him.”

#BuildHisName
“And in the same way, when we just try and build our name, we end up being scattered. We end up being lost. See, there's something in us that wants to build something great, something of significance, but we do that by building his name, not our name. And that is the beauty of the church that we come to a place like this, a gathering like this, and we are part of something far greater than self, something that is gonna last beyond the generations. That's why it's amazing to see $2,600,000 come in for his kingdom, for his church, because we are saying it's not about us, it's about a greater cause, a greater kingdom. This house that is gonna be here for generations after generations proclaiming the name of Jesus. What a wonderful thing that we don't just build our name, we get to build his name.”

#ChurchFamily
“His church to embracing a greater worldview is it's family that is about calling, just not commonalities. Now I love the diversity of God's house, all ages, all stages, all cultures, all backgrounds, yet we are family. And what makes us family? It's not our differences. What unites us is our devotion to Jesus and being on mission together. Jesus said it even with his own family. He said, who is my mother and brothers? Pointing his disciples, he says, here they are. For whoever does the will of my father in heaven is my brother, sister, or mother. Come on. Thicker than blood is being on mission together, Doing the will of the father together. See, individualism is about what I can get. God's church is about what I can give.”

#HospitalityWins
“Opening our lives, opening our homes, it creates family. Come on. What are we doing to build church in a way that builds family? Not attendance, but family. You know, there's an incredibly powerful story of a lady by the name of Rosia Butterfield. She's written incredible books, amazing speaker, but she wrote the story of her testimony, and she was a professor in a New York university who taught English and women's rights, and she was a lesbian activist. She viewed conservative Christians with suspicion and was researching the religious right as part of her academic work. An unexpected letter though changed the direction of her research after she wrote a newspaper article criticizing the evangelical men's movement promise keepers. A local pastor by the name of Ken Smith wrote her a respectful letter. Instead of debating her publicly, he invited her to dinner with his family. And a friendship developed over two years. She spent many evenings in their home conversing with Ken and his wife, and they answered questions, encouraged her to read the bible for herself. And after two years of these dinners and her personally pursuing Jesus for herself, she became a Christian.”

#ServeTheBroken
“You know, I I remember when the significance of the church truly hit me for the first time, and I'd always grown up loving God's house, and I wanted to help people. So I did a degree in psychology and then did my master's in social work, and as part of that I did a placement and then worked at a sexual abuse centre. And so when women were raped or abused, we sat with them through their medical examination, then when they gave their statement to the police, and then through the court system as well. It was a it was a one stop shop. It was also a counselling centre as well, a rehabilitation centre. But to be honest, we just saw heartbreak after heartbreak.”

#ChurchIsHisBride
“And when Jesus appeared to Saul who became Paul, he said to him, not are you persecuting why are you persecuting the church? He said to him, why are you persecuting me? It was personal to Jesus. The church is mine. I mean, the most personal illustration in the bible for the church is when Christ refers to us as his bride and that he is the bridegroom who laid down his life for the church, for his bride, that when we surrender to him, we find life. And, you know, when Craig and I got married, I think twenty four years ago,”
