“``My god say to the church, you've gotta do what it was meant to do for it to do any good. It's not up to the world to come in line with the church. It's up to the church to be what god knows the world needs. Jesus knew the world needed from the time he died on the cross and promised to return. It only works when we live from this vision of joyful, life giving community where broken people can find hope, where all of us can find our purpose and meaning in following the risen Jesus. And I believe God will still do God's part to bless and increase our efforts just as god did in the first century. It can be true in the twenty first one as well.”

#BreathOfLife
“Actually, that is the second most intimate moment between god and people in the scripture. The first one was the first stop on Route 66 in creation where we're told that what did god do? Unique among all things in creation that God breathed the breath of life humanity. And now this moment in John, Jesus breathes on them, and they receive the spirit. The word for breath and spirit are all interrelated and and and interconnected. God breathed into Adam in Genesis one, and Adam became a living soul, we're told. Now here we have the breath of god, and the church is a new creation brought to life by the breath of Jesus.”

#SpiritPoweredChurch
“And what will happen in the book of acts we'll find this scenario repeated over and over that the book of Acts is really a story of how the church did all these different things, but there was a something other to it that they couldn't pull off on their own. It didn't matter how good their strategic plan was. It didn't matter how much they followed through. It didn't matter how many activities they did, how many places they went, how many invitations they offered. All those things mattered, but what added the something more was the holy spirit. They kept going around constantly saying, god must be in this because we couldn't have we could not have done this. It's a spirit powered movement. Things that could only be explained by the spirit's work in and through them, making them more than some of their parts.”

“Here's the thing. I think when we look down our noses at people because of their name or because of all these various kinds of things, I didn't even get the whole list, and we decide quickly they don't fit or whatever, I think that draws apart from the heart of Jesus. But to the extent that we can say, Jesus truly draw people to this warmth of the spirit's flame. fact, send us the people that no one else wants. That's a hard one to pray. But I think the more we pray that, the closer we get to the heart of Jesus.”
