#LetAwkwardnessBe
“``I know this is hard, but it basically is just let the awkwardness just be. Don't run to try to make it okay. Don't mask it over as if everything's alright. Do you know how devastating it is if you show up at a doctor with a serious terminal illness that could be solved, but they give you pain medication that masks the symptoms, they don't know how to diagnose it correctly? You gotta let it feel what it's meant to feel. You've gotta let it stand as it is meant to stand. And when it comes to a brother who's living in unrepentant sin, don't try to treat them differently. Let the spirit work through the distance that the relationship is now created because you're trying to walk with Jesus, they're not anymore. And don't forget when you feel the awkwardness, you're not the one who moved, they are.”

#RestoreGently
“What he says is after being turned over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, after that work of reconciliation, calling him to repentance is complete and the man begs to be restored, you do what it says in Galatians six two, you restore him gently. You bring comfort around him. You just wrap him up in your arms as a church of protection and love and embrace. You eat freely with him because you're thankful that he has listened and abided by the word of God and has brought himself back into conformity with what God's word says. You do this so he will not be overcome by excessive sorrow. It is a miserable, lonely place to be outside of the will of God, feeling the effects of the enemy. So you bring him close and you reaffirm your love for him.”

#RemoveTheLeaven
“You see, when sin is allowed to persist, it acts upon a congregation the same way that leaven acts upon a lump of dough. And this language all comes from the days of Passover, when the Israelites were commanded to remove any and all leaven from their houses. Leaven has always had a metaphoric meaning. It stands for evil, and it is recognized that when sin and evil are allowed to remain in one person, it always has a corrupting influence on all. For since Christ has been sacrificed, a divine purification of our lives has taken place as we have trust him. We're not saved because we are made pure by our own own efforts, We are saved because of what Christ has done, and the purity of our lives should then reflect that finished work of Jesus and his ongoing work in making us like his son.”

#RedemptiveDiscipline
“And the language that he uses for what he will do, it is striking, isn't it? Is there any other New Testament passage that looks anything like this? Paul says, deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of his flesh so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. Now this is serious language. The first thing that you notice about it is how it ends. This is redemptive in its spirit. The longing is for the man to repent, be right with God so that his soul will be saved in the day of the Lord. That when Jesus comes again, Jesus will receive him, not by the merit of his own righteousness, but because he had placed all of his hope and his faith and his trust into Christ.”
