#WitnessNotDistraction
“Think about this in your married life. When your spouse comes home and they have taken something and they are sharing with all kinds of passion, that something that's happened at their workplace, with somebody they encountered, with somebody at a store, and they are losing it, and they're telling you this. And you're thinking to yourself, I don't think it's that big of a deal. You don't say that. Just what you're thinking. And just remember how easy it is to take a challenge, a struggle, and make it a distraction from an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ. We mustn't lose our focus, and that is being witnesses, that is making disciples of Jesus Christ wherever we go. Would you join me in prayer?”

“By listening to the problems with open minds, by discerning what God was calling to, the church did not lose its focus. Because we see that evidence right here, the word spread and the group focused on what was right and true and trustworthy. They were focused on what God had called them to do and not caught up in this challenge that's going to happen in a body of believers with sinners in it.”

#ChurchHoppingReality
“``This happens in churches as well. We recognize that the modern church is a melting pot, and here's what happens in today's world. Back in the day, you didn't go to the next church. You sat there and you sorted it out because that's the only church that you had because you couldn't go to another church because it was too far away. But here it is, the space right now where it's like, well, I don't really like what they're saying, so I'm going to the next place. I don't like the music, so I'm going to the next place. This is uncomfortable for me, so I'm going to the next place. And so we have this church hopping world established in our culture today looking for the perfect church. I have news for you. When you find the perfect church, don't go there because it's no longer perfect because you're there.”

#WaitOnGod
“Where do you turn when the challenge comes? Do you get on your knees? Do you go before the lord, or is it to that friend who's going to bolster your opinions and gonna tell you what you wanna hear? What are our gifts and talents, and how do those lead us into a space of, okay, God. Why is this before me? Why is this challenge? Why is this? Position? Why am I facing this? And, god, I just wanna be faithful in it. I don't understand yet what to do, but I just wanna be faithful in it. Do we force a decision? Do we force a plan? And let me tell you, of you type a's force a plan. And we've had to learn, and if we're not there yet, there's a maturity and faith that learns that God is going to do things in his timing, and we have to be faithful as we wait.”

#ServantLeadership
“Notice the response. They weren't defensive. It wasn't this issue of like, oh, I can't believe this is happening. No. The leader's response was balanced. It was approachable. It was like, I recognize this is something we have to get right, and so let's get it right. They didn't take offense. Their feelings weren't hurt. They didn't take it personally. Instead, they examined the problem and implanted a proper solution. They also acknowledged I can't do this on my own. We have enough stuff going on to add this one more thing onto the plate. So here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna select seven people who are full of the spirit, who are walking with the lord, and we're gonna have them be basically prayed over and set in a motion to take this over.”

#PrayerfulResponse
“They didn't dismiss the problem. They didn't attack the problem by themselves. They allow this challenge to not be a disruption, but instead to be something that is uplifting for the body of believers. I love this because so often when someone says something to me, it's very easy for a pastor or for a staff member or anybody in imposition to take it personally or feel like they're attacking us. And sometimes it feels that way, but we've gotta get to a place quickly that says, wait a minute here. Let's evaluate. Is this right? Is this true? And if it's true, we have to address it the proper way, which is let's be prayerful about it, let's discern what God wants in this space, and let's move forward. And that's exactly what they did.”

#PatientDiscernment
“When you search out scriptures and you begin to read this and allow it to wash over you, one of the major themes you see throughout scripture is waiting on the lord. And waiting on the lord isn't, okay, god. I need to get this done right now, and I'm gonna do this, this, and this. Waiting on the lord is saying, okay, god. What do you wanna do here? I talk often with people who are planning what's next in life, whether it's a college, degree, whether it's a new job, all these things. And that's great. Wonderful. Go for it. I'm I wanna encourage you in all those spaces. But if you don't have an answer yet of what's next or what's right, sit in it. Wait in it.”

#FaithOverControl
“A couple of things that I wanna just just challenge you to think about, and the first one is this in our own personal lives. When challenges come, what's our first response? Knowing this guy the way that I do, we have lot of type a personalities. And what you're gonna do is you're gonna try and handle this through your own strength. And you're gonna work your brain up, and it's gonna run un unstoppable and keep moving until you get to a place where you're finally kinda like, okay. I got this figured out. But that's not necessarily what god calls us to. Or we respond by being being defensive or or trying to justify our behavior instead of looking for the opportunities to be faithful in our walk?”
