#SinnersNeedSavior
“``You and I are not mistakers in need of a life coach. We are sinners in need of a savior. And the good news is that a good God has given you exactly what you need in Jesus. So the good shepherd has come after you to embrace you and to bring you home. And I encourage you today to surrender to him, to put your future in his hands, and to feel the embrace of his arms.”

#GoodShepherd
“So the question we should be asking this morning is a better question. It's who? Who is good? And Jesus says to you and to me, am the good shepherd. I am the good shepherd. See, we want to sort everyone into two groups. Two groups, good people and bad people. And we think that somehow because of the way that we've interpreted or understood the law, it's like, well, you're keeping the law, you're a good person. If you're not keeping the law, you're a bad person. But Jesus doesn't define us that way. Jesus sees us as one group of people. One group of people, sheep. Lost sheep that need a good shepherd. And so my encouragement to you this morning is stop looking around. Look up. Look up at the goodness of God, at the holiness of God. And accept his promise that if you surrender your life to him, that his spirit will fill you, and you will experience goodness as a fruit of the Holy Spirit.”

#IsGodGood
“And that raises a really important question which is perhaps the most important question of all. Is God good? Is God good? And who gets to judge God? Because I've met a lot of people who say, well, I don't believe in God because a, b, c, he did these things. Who gets to judge God? Who gets to determine if God is good? And would a good God leave this mysterious? Like, a good God honestly just leave it up to our, like, I hope I'm good enough? I'm gonna give it my best effort and the older I get, the more I'm gonna behave because I'm getting closer and closer to maybe encountering God and I want him to know that I'm one of him, I'm a good guy, I'm on the good side. What kind of god leaves it up to guesswork? I'll tell you what kind of god. Not a good god. Not a good god. A good god would not leave you guessing. A good god would make the answer clear for us.”

#GoodWithoutBelief
“Some of the goodest people that I have ever known do not believe in God. You do not have to believe in God to be good. I know wonderful, wonderful people who don't believe in God, and they're really good people. They're they've been good to me. They've been good to my kids. They've been good to my friends and my neighbors. Like, they are such good people, even though they don't believe in God. So I want that to be really clear. If you're here today or you're watching online and you don't believe in God, first of all, thank you for giving us some of your time on a Sunday morning. Thank you for being able to spend some time watching this message and to think about where you get your idea of good from because I would postulate you can be good without believing in God, but you cannot define good without believing in God.”

#ConfrontInnerEvil
“And when I see his goodness, when I see the magnitude of his goodness, when I see how great God is, you see, I can't think that I'm good unless I diminish the goodness of God. And when I begin to see just how big God is, and when I begin to see just how great God is, and when I begin to see just how good God is, then I get smaller and smaller, and I recognize I am not just not always good. I have evil in my own heart. And we cannot contend with the evil around us until we confront the evil within.”

#TrustGodsGoodness
“When we doubt the goodness of God, we are beginning down the path, the same path that Adam and Eve went. Whenever we begin to doubt that either God is good or God is great. See, these are the two core truths about God, that God is good and that God is great. And pretty soon, if we begin to doubt either one of these, we will turn our back in God and we will make our own path because we'll think, He doesn't want what's good for me. I know what's good for me. I'm going to go in this direction because I know better what's good. And God's like, No, you don't. You don't know what's good. I love you and I know what is good for you. And and the the defense that I've put up around you, it's not to keep you in, it's to keep you safe. And if you learn to trust me and to trust my goodness, things will be so much better for you because you won't be exposing yourself to evil and you won't be committing acts of evil if you would just remember, I am good.”

#HeartsAreDeceitful
“Please don't do that. Our hearts are terrible advisors. Our hearts are deceitful. And the reason that they're deceitful is because what happened in this moment that we collectively said, I think I know better than God. And in that moment, evil was introduced to the world. Evil, which is what what it means to exploit someone else's vulnerability. When you think about the worst things, the things that you feel like they should just put that person away and throw away the key, it's because someone has exploited someone else's vulnerability. This is the evil that came into the world. And it all began, it all began because Adam and Eve doubted whether or not God is good.”

#SinKillsPossibilities
“He meant that wherever sin shows up and sin is just missing the mark, sin is turning our back away, sin is believing I know better than God. Something dies. A relationship dies, an opportunity dies. I used to say to my kids when they were little, like, all the time, the possibilities for what God could do in your life and how God could use you, they're unlimited right now. But through choices that you make and decisions that you make, you can narrow the options that God has available in terms of how he can use you because of choices and decisions that you make. When we sin, something dies. Sometimes it's our own future.”
