45s
“``Think of the coconut. The shedding of selfless selfishness and pride, the revealing of purity of heart, the outpouring of love, none of that would have been possible without a swing of the machete. Without the blade piercing the coconut's hard shell, the love inside would have never burst forth. And this is what I think Jesus means when he says his message, his word comes like a sword. His sword isn't one of destruction, but one used to pierce our souls and reveal the fruit of the spirit inside.”
37s
“However, I don't believe this is the type of sword Jesus is really talking about. When Jesus says he brings his message as a sword, it's not a sword to cause death and destruction. It's a sword to divide the life giving from the death dealing. A sword to draw a line between what is of God and what is of the world. A sword to chisel back all the things that distract us from following him.”
47s
“Dear friends, it's my hope and prayer that in a world so consumed with selfishness and greed, we can be brave enough to welcome the transforming power of Jesus' word. It's my hope and prayer that Jesus' word can pierce even the hardest of hearts, opening the mind of the most guarded and self serving. It's my hope and prayer that we can shed the things that keep us from fully loving each other so that like the coconut's water, compassion, love, and mercy can pour out abundantly in all that we say and do.”
32s
“At the risk of sounding cheesy, I believe Jesus' message is that machete for our lives. As followers of Christ, Jesus' word cleaves its way into our hearts so that we may clear away all that distracts us and overshadows his teachings. The blade of Christ's word cuts through our selfishness so that we can live as he commands. So that we can feed the hungry and soothe the thirsty.”
