1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.”

For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.”

Interpretation questions
- Why can Paul tell believers to encourage one another with Christ’s return when the passage also describes death, resurrection, and a dramatic meeting with the Lord?
- Revelation 19 presents Jesus as both “Faithful and True” and as the One who judges and makes war in righteousness. How does this help explain why Christ’s love, mercy, justice, and judgment do not compete with one another? [01:08:15]
- The foolish bridesmaids were near the wedding party and called the bridegroom “Lord,” yet they were not known by him. What does this show about the difference between religious familiarity and a real, ready relationship with Christ? [01:02:54]

Application questions
- When Christ’s return comes to mind, does it mainly bring encouragement, fear, indifference, or confusion? What does that response reveal about where your heart is with God right now? [01:11:36]
- It is easy to spend more time talking about wars, disasters, technology, the antichrist, or cultural decline than about Jesus Himself. Which distractions most easily pull your attention away from the coming King, and how can you keep Christ at the center? [52:20]
- The oil in the lamps points to a life that has the reality of God’s presence and brings light into dark places. Where are you tempted to rely on church language, past experiences, or someone else’s faith instead of seeking God for yourself? [01:01:26]
- A person who expects the King learns to look beyond the immediate moment. What present decision—about holiness, relationships, money, work, entertainment, or forgiveness—would look different if you viewed it in light of meeting Christ? [01:03:31]
- Prayer, Scripture, fellowship, evangelism, and holy living are visible fruit of a life that loves God. Which of these areas is currently healthy in your life, and which one needs a simple, specific step of obedience this week? [01:06:40]
- The whole gospel includes Christ’s death, resurrection, and return. Who is one person with whom you could naturally speak this week about Jesus not only as Savior, but also as the King who will make all things right? [01:09:31]
