Christ Our Vision: Prioritizing His Glory in Our Lives
Devotional
Day 1: Evaluating Our Spiritual Priorities
Reflecting on our spiritual priorities is crucial to ensure that we are not distracted by worldly pursuits. The Israelites, upon returning to Jerusalem, were more focused on building their own homes than on rebuilding God's temple. This serves as a reminder for us to consider whether we are prioritizing our own desires over God's purposes. By regularly evaluating our spiritual condition, we can align our actions with God's will and ensure that Christ remains at the center of our lives. [09:13]
Haggai 1:5-6 (ESV): "Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you have prioritized personal gain over spiritual growth? How can you realign this area to focus on God's purpose today?
Day 2: Christ as the Alpha and Omega
Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and this truth should guide our lives. We are called to ensure that Christ is the first in our decisions and actions, and the ultimate goal of our existence. This means allowing Him to shape our identity and purpose, ensuring that He is the foundation and culmination of all we do. By doing so, we live a life that reflects His glory and purpose. [30:07]
Revelation 22:13 (ESV): "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."
Reflection: In what ways can you make Christ the starting point and ultimate goal of your daily decisions and actions?
Day 3: Seeing Christ in His Glory
John's vision of Christ on the island of Patmos challenges us to see Christ in His heavenly glory. This vision is a call to live with the awareness of His presence and to allow Him to transform our lives. By seeing Christ in His glory, we are reminded of His power and majesty, which should inspire us to live a life that reflects His character and purpose. [21:21]
Revelation 1:12-16 (ESV): "Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters."
Reflection: How can you cultivate a daily awareness of Christ's presence and allow His glory to transform your thoughts and actions?
Day 4: Living with Urgency for Christ's Return
The return of Christ is imminent and unexpected, like a thief in the night. This urgency compels us to live each day with the expectation of His return, aligning our lives with His will and purpose. We are encouraged to prepare our hearts and lives for His coming, ensuring that we are not caught unprepared. By living with this sense of urgency, we can focus on what truly matters and live a life that honors Him. [54:19]
1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 (ESV): "For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, 'There is peace and security,' then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape."
Reflection: What steps can you take today to prepare your heart and life for Christ's return, ensuring that you are living in alignment with His will?
Day 5: Total Surrender to Christ
Our lives should be wholly surrendered to Christ, allowing Him to be the center of everything we do. This surrender leads to a life that is not lived for ourselves but for His glory and purpose. By surrendering to Christ, we acknowledge His lordship over our lives and commit to living in obedience to His will. This total surrender is a daily decision that requires us to trust in His plan and purpose for our lives. [57:08]
Romans 12:1 (ESV): "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you find yourself holding back from surrendering to Jesus? What would surrendering this area to Him actually look like in terms of daily habits?
Sermon Summary
In our gathering today, we focused on the theme "Christ Our Vision," drawing from the book of Haggai and the experiences of the Israelites returning from captivity. The Israelites, after returning to a desolate Jerusalem, were tasked with rebuilding the temple. However, they faced opposition and became distracted by their own needs, building luxurious homes instead of focusing on God's temple. Haggai, a prophet, urged them to "consider" their ways, prompting them to reflect on their priorities and spiritual condition. This call to "consider" is a powerful reminder for us today to evaluate our spiritual lives and ensure that Christ is at the center of everything we do.
We also explored the vision of Christ given to John the Apostle on the island of Patmos. Despite John's deep relationship with Jesus, he was shown a new vision of Christ in His heavenly glory. This vision challenges us to see Christ as the first and last in our lives, the beginning and the end, and the living one who sustains us. We must ask ourselves if Christ truly holds the first place in our lives or if we have allowed other things to take precedence. The call is to live with Christ as our vision, ensuring that our lives reflect His glory and purpose.
As we anticipate the return of our Lord, we are reminded that His coming will be sudden, like a thief in the night. This urgency compels us to live each day with the expectation of His return, aligning our lives with His will and purpose. We are encouraged to consider our spiritual state, to live not for ourselves but for Christ, and to be ready for His return at any moment.
Key Takeaways
1. Reflect on Priorities: Just as Haggai urged the Israelites to consider their ways, we must regularly evaluate our spiritual priorities. Are we building our own "houses" or focusing on God's temple in our lives? This reflection helps us align our actions with God's purpose. [09:13]
2. Christ as the First and Last: Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. We must ensure that He is the first in our lives, guiding our decisions and actions, and the last, the ultimate goal and purpose of our existence. [30:07]
3. Living with Christ as Our Vision: Like John on Patmos, we are called to see Christ in His glory and let that vision transform our lives. This means living with the awareness of His presence and allowing Him to shape our identity and purpose. [21:21]
4. Urgency of Christ's Return: The return of Christ is imminent and unexpected. We must live with a sense of urgency, preparing our hearts and lives for His coming, ensuring that we are not caught unprepared. [54:19]
5. Total Surrender to Christ: Our lives should be wholly surrendered to Christ, allowing Him to be the center of everything we do. This surrender leads to a life that is not lived for ourselves but for His glory and purpose. [57:08] ** [57:08]

Sermon Clips
And thank God, when Cyrus gave this command, a number of the children of Israel year in Zion, stood by the Spirit of God, they returned to Jerusalem. Jerusalem at that time was completely destroyed. They went back with one purpose only, and that purpose is to rebuild the temple, the name of God may have a testimony on this earth. [00:03:47]
But we know their enemy was not happy with this, so he stood up their neighbors, try to prevent the building of the temple. Unfortunately, they succeeded in doing that so the children of Israel who returned, after they could not, to be at the temple, what could they do? They began to build their over houses. [00:05:05]
God raisin and old man called a guy, and he began to speak to the returned remnant, ending his short words, because he has very few words to speak, he asked them one thing and that is the world, considered. He wanted the returned remnant to consider, to consider why is it that when they work very hard for their living and yet they receive very poor reward. [00:06:30]
Consider means think about it, do not let things pass casually, think about your situation, think about your spiritual condition, spiritual think about what happened to you why is it that, a labor much the protein little, there must be a reason behind it, so this old man asked them to consider. [00:09:00]
I wonder brothers and sisters, do we ever spend time to consider, how do we continue to live our life casually, if everything is alright, do we really review our life sing about what has happened to our life whether I spiritual life is in the right relationship with the Lord or whether we are just living day by day. [00:15:01]
Have we ever considered our situations before the Lord, and where we consider, what do we find, are we in right relationship with the Lord, do we let the Lord be everything to our life, are we just living for ourselves, in the window we find that our lives are not satisfactory, so dear brothers and sisters. [00:16:07]
He knew Christ on earth so well, but here you find he was a given a vision of Christ that he had not known before, unfortunately, many times when we look at the so called Patmos vision, our attention probably will be turned to the seven golden lampstands, we are thinking of the churches. [00:21:17]
The one that God wanted to spell special attention to is not any of these churches, it was one like the Son of Man, now why is he saying like the Son of Man, John knew Christ so intimately, but here he said he saw a man like the Son of Man, Oh, because the only he knew what he was on earth. [00:22:09]
He is the first and he is the last, he is the Alpha and the Omega, he is the first being everything, not only in time, but in all things, before him there was none nothing and he was the beginning, in the beginning God, so he is the first, now so far as we are concerned, what is our relationship to him as the first. [00:29:16]
He must be the first, he must be their last and he must be the life in between, now there refers to his past and then, he said, and I became dead, that tells of his incarnation, how he came into this world, for one purpose, to go to the cross, not for himself, before so far as he himself is concerned. [00:45:00]
He will come as a thief, he will never blow the trumpet you know I, often, when we were seen singing hymns, concerning the coming of the Lord, number of hymns, tell us when the trumpet blows, and the angels sound, then the Lord shall return, when I seen it I, often say to myself, it is a little bit too late. [00:54:35]
Dear Lord as we get it here this morning, we all consider a most serious question, we cannot afford to be careless, Lord may thy spirit search our hearts, see if within us, there is still our selves in charge, dear lord i has given thy all for us, and we want to give ourselves totally over to you.
