A life built on any foundation other than Jesus Christ is built on shifting sand, destined to fail under pressure. The only secure and lasting foundation is the Lord Jesus Himself, the cornerstone chosen by God. He is the rock upon which we can confidently build our lives, our families, and our church. All other foundations, no matter how impressive they appear, will ultimately crumble and disappoint. [39:21]
The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.
Matthew 21:42 (KJV)
Reflection: As you consider the structure of your daily life, what are you relying on for your ultimate security and sense of worth? In what practical ways can you intentionally build more upon the foundation of Christ this week?
God has provided everything needed for a life that bears good fruit. He plants, protects, and prepares the ground of our hearts for this purpose. The fruit He desires is not merely external religious activity, but the internal transformation that produces love, joy, peace, and a heart for the lost. This fruit is the natural result of a life connected to Him, the true vine. [52:24]
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
John 15:5 (KJV)
Reflection: When you examine the "vineyard" of your own life, what kind of fruit is most evident? Is there a specific area where you sense God inviting you to abide in Him more deeply to see a greater yield of spiritual fruit?
In a world filled with competing and distracting voices, the call of Christ cuts through the noise with clarity and purpose. He alone speaks words of eternal life and truth that have the power to shape and change us. Making space to truly hear His voice requires intentionality, setting aside the clamor of other influences to focus on His Word. [46:24]
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:27 (KJV)
Reflection: What are the primary "voices" or influences that most often compete for your attention and discipleship? What is one practical step you can take this week to create more quiet space to listen for and respond to the voice of Jesus?
Our motivation for service and obedience flows from a heart transformed by grace and gratitude for what Christ has done. We serve not to earn God's favor or the approval of others, but because we have already been fully accepted and validated in Him. This gospel-centered service is lasting and joyful, a natural response to His great love for us. [01:24:21]
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
2 Corinthians 5:14 (KJV)
Reflection: Where in your life might you be serving out of a sense of obligation or a need to prove yourself, rather than from a place of grateful response to God's love? How might shifting your motivation to gratitude change your experience of that service?
Our true identity, acceptance, and security are found solely in Jesus Christ, not in our performance, accomplishments, or the opinions of others. When we are rooted in this truth, we are freed from the exhausting need to prove our worth. We can rest in the finished work of Christ, which allows us to humbly acknowledge our weaknesses while relying on His strength. [01:25:37]
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Ephesians 1:6 (KJV)
Reflection: In which relationship or area of your life do you most often find yourself seeking validation from someone or something other than Christ? What would it look like to actively receive and rest in His acceptance of you in that specific area today?
Announcements open with upcoming fellowship, midweek studies, youth groups, and multiple outreach opportunities—men’s breakfast, community service, photo day for a new church directory, Bible institute milestones, an anniversary chili cook-off, and an old-fashioned hymn sing. Psalm 33 frames worship as wholly for God, calling the assembly to praise, prayer, and dependence on divine grace. Songs and prayers focus on God’s love and on humble confidence before the throne, preparing hearts for the central text.
A parable about vineyard renters exposes a crisis of spiritual stewardship. The owner prepares the vineyard carefully—planting, fencing, pressing, and building a tower—then leases it to tenants and departs. When harvest time arrives, the owner sends servants to collect fruit; the tenants beat, kill, and stone the messengers, then plot and kill the owner’s son. The parable points to a deeper reality: rejection of God’s appointed Cornerstone leads to judgment, but the rejected Stone becomes the foundation for a renewed people.
Scripture links the parable to the psalms that declare the rejected stone as the head of the corner, showing God’s sovereign reversal and vindication of the Son. The historical failure of national Israel to bear kingdom fruit shifts the responsibility for outward witness: the people of God now become the community called to bear fruit. That calling includes practical service, evangelism, and sacrificial love as evidence of authentic faith.
The homiletic application directs attention to three levels: a sober word about Israel’s place in redemptive history and the ultimate peace only the Messiah can bring; a corporate appeal for churches to test foundations, bear gospel fruit, and avoid mere programmatic busyness; and a personal challenge to build life on Christ, embrace gospel-centered grace, and stop seeking validation in performance. The closing invitation presses for repentance, faith, and active obedience—an altar for those needing assurance and a call to engage in mission for those already rooted in Christ.
Maybe today you're sitting here with conviction on your heart and say, man, I'm just really not where I ought to be. Here's what I wanna challenge you to do. Don't beat yourself up because God's not beating you up over it. In fact, just go to your heavenly father and acknowledge it. He already knows, by the way. It's not gonna be a surprise to him. Just go to him and say, Lord, you've laid some things in my heart to do and I've not been obedient. I acknowledge it. I confess it. And the Bible says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us.

Maybe today you're sitting here and say, don't know that I'm even right with God. I don't even know that heaven would be my home. I'm here to tell you what requires you know what is required of you to go to heaven? Belief. Just believing God's promise of salvation. Say, Lord, I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and he is the savior of the world. The Bible says, with the heart man believes under righteousness. If you're here today and you don't know that you have the righteousness of God, that you're right with him, I call on you to trust him today.

What does a gospel centered life look like? Well, number one, we recognize the whole bible is about Jesus. This book is not a rule book. It's a story about my hero. It's a story about my savior. It's a story given to me to learn more about him. The gospel sinner life is not just, well, I gotta keep every rule in the book, and then Jesus will be pleased with me. No. My my acceptance with almighty god is based on Jesus.

If today ought to be a day to say, Lord, oh, may your word enter my heart, and may I come away saying, Lord and not not in the wrong way. Sometimes you come away, I'm such a loser. I'm such a bad Christian. I can't ever do anything right. That's just mealy mouth pride. The right response is say, Lord, I can always bear more fruit with your help. Help me. I want to bear more fruit. Show me what's hindering the fruit in my life.

We're here because he's worthy. We're here because it's his day. We're here because what a better way to start your week, but offering up some time to him to say, Lord, you're worthy of a few hours of the entirety of my attention and effort dedicated to you. You're worthy to to for me to sit here and for the next thirty or forty minutes, let some guy some of your first time here don't even know me. Let some guy take the word of God and say, hey. This is what Jesus thus saith the Lord. Lord, you're worthy of that.

You and I, we all we claim that we're all about Jesus. But what are we building on? Jesus. Yes. He's my foundation. Yes. Jesus is my cornerstone. Yes. Jesus is shaping the shape of my life. Jesus is directing where I'm going. He's he's my everything, but is that actually true? We're building times on sand. It becomes all about money, accumulation of power, sexual pleasure, politics, career, children, the approval of others instead of being gospel centered, Christ centered.

Lord, we need you. We come today saying, Lord, we're desperate for you, And thank you that Jesus is our foundation. I pray for anyone here that doesn't have that, doesn't have that assurance that they are your children. Lord, I pray they would understand the gospel that Jesus came and died, was buried, and rose again the third day so their sins could be paid for, and they could be made right with you, that they would trust, they would believe.

What we've come here to do today by the grace of god is to worship him and he becomes the object of our focus, our attention, all of our effort. Jesus said, thou shalt love the lord thy god with all thy heart, soul, mind, and strength. He said, that's impossible. You're right. But with his grace, we can we can. And so we've come today to worship him. And worship is not an activity that benefits me. Though it does, the Lord blesses worship. It's for him.
