Day 1: Simplicity in Ministry: Blessing Over Impressing
In ministry, the focus should be on blessing others with simplicity and truth rather than impressing them with knowledge or eloquence. This approach fosters a genuine connection with God and aligns with His purpose. By choosing to bless rather than impress, individuals can create an environment where everyone, including children, can understand and relate to the teachings of the church. This principle encourages a ministry that is accessible and meaningful, allowing the message of God's love and truth to reach the hearts of all who hear it. [01:40]
1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (ESV): "And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified."
Reflection: Think of a recent conversation where you focused on impressing rather than blessing. How can you approach similar situations with simplicity and truth in the future?
Day 2: Prophecy and Obedience: A Foundation for Church Practices
Prophecy plays a crucial role in guiding church practices, ensuring they are rooted in obedience to God's word. This foundation helps resist the temptation to conform to popular but unbiblical trends in Christendom. By adhering to prophetic guidance, churches can maintain their integrity and provide a stable environment for future generations. This approach encourages individuals to seek out communities that align with biblical principles, fostering spiritual growth and maturity. [03:53]
1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 (ESV): "Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good."
Reflection: Consider a trend in modern Christianity that you feel may not align with biblical teachings. How can you discern and respond to such trends in your own spiritual journey?
Day 3: Spiritual Discernment in Music: Aligning with Biblical Truths
Music has a profound impact on our souls, and it is essential to discern between soulish and spiritual music. Spiritual music prepares our hearts for God's word and aligns with biblical truths, while soulish music may stir emotions without spiritual depth. By choosing music that lifts our spirits to worship God and aligns with His word, we can create an atmosphere conducive to receiving His message. This discernment extends to all areas of life, encouraging individuals to invest in what is eternal and pleasing to God. [11:10]
Colossians 3:16 (ESV): "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
Reflection: Reflect on the music you listen to regularly. Does it align with biblical truths and prepare your heart for God's word? How can you incorporate more spiritually enriching music into your life?
Day 4: The Power of Choice: Seeking God's Kingdom First
The decisions we make, from committing to Jesus to choosing a church, should be guided by a desire to seek God's kingdom first. These choices have eternal significance and can shape the course of our spiritual journey. By prioritizing God's kingdom in our decisions, we align ourselves with His will and purpose, leading to a life that reflects His love and truth. This principle encourages individuals to evaluate their choices and ensure they are in line with God's desires for their lives. [07:29]
Matthew 6:33 (ESV): "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Reflection: Identify a significant decision you are currently facing. How can you ensure that your choice is guided by a desire to seek God's kingdom first?
Day 5: Vigilance Against Soulishness: Building on What is Eternal
Soulishness, more than worldliness, is a subtle enemy in Christendom. It requires the sharpness of God's word to discern between soul and spirit, ensuring our lives are built on what is eternal. By being vigilant against soulish influences, individuals can focus on spiritual growth and invest in what truly matters. This discernment helps believers to navigate the complexities of life with wisdom and clarity, aligning their actions with God's eternal purposes. [12:42]
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV): "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
Reflection: Examine an area of your life where soulishness may be influencing your decisions. How can you apply the sharpness of God's word to discern and align this area with His eternal purposes?
Sermon Summary
In today's gathering, I wanted to continue discussing the marks of God's presence in a church, a topic I began a couple of weeks ago. My aim is to make these concepts relatable and understandable for everyone, including our children. I shared a piece of advice my father gave me: in ministry, you can choose to impress people or bless them. This has guided me to speak simply and plainly, focusing on blessing others rather than impressing them with knowledge or eloquence.
We explored the importance of prophecy and how it guides our practices as a church. We strive to obey God's word without twisting it to fit popular trends in Christendom. This is crucial for our children, who will one day choose their own church communities. I shared my personal journey of wandering spiritually before finding a church that aligned with the principles I learned as a child. I hope to plant similar seeds in our children's hearts, so they can make wise choices in the future.
I emphasized the importance of committing one's life to Jesus and making decisions that align with God's kingdom. The choices we make, such as whom we marry or where we live, should be guided by a desire to seek God's kingdom first. We also discussed the role of music in prophecy and how it can prepare our hearts for receiving God's word. Music has a powerful influence, and we must be discerning about the songs we sing and listen to, ensuring they have spiritual value and align with biblical principles.
I shared examples from scripture, such as Elisha's use of music to receive a word from the Lord, and Jesus' discernment in choosing hymns that aligned with His mission. We must be vigilant against soulish music that stirs emotions without spiritual depth. Instead, we should seek music that lifts our spirits to worship God and aligns with His word. This discernment extends to all areas of life, as we strive to invest in what is eternal and pleasing to God.

Sermon Clips
I remember many years ago my dad gave me a piece of advice I've never forgotten. This was long before I had any or realized what my gifts were in ministry or anything like that, but he said Santosh if the Lord ever wants to use you you'll face two choices: either to impress people or to bless them. [00:01:25]
We seek to obey it without trying to meander around it—meander is a big word—without trying to twist our way around it, because the rest of Christendom has twisted its way around it, or large portions of it. We seek to simply obey God's word, and so that's true about prophecy. [00:04:00]
I hope our hope as elders and I believe that it's the hope of all of the adults in this room, that is that you will make the right choices when the time comes. I first of all to commit your life to Jesus, that's the most important choice. [00:07:19]
The Bible talks about the Holy Spirit talks about through Paul that it's possible to lay a foundation on Jesus Christ. This is not what I intended to speak on so you can look it up some other time. He talks about it's possible to lay a foundation on Jesus Christ and yet build something that is completely destroyed at the end. [00:08:29]
Music has the ability to sway the soul. There is soulish preaching I've heard, I've listened to, I've heard here and there bits and pieces of soulish preachers who use their soul power, their ability to speak. I mean if you're a gifted speaker you could do that with atheism. [00:11:18]
Perhaps your greatest enemy, our greatest enemy, is soulishness more than worldliness. We preach a lot about a high standard, we preach against worldliness, we want to have nothing to do with it, but then the danger can be that we don't know the difference between what's spiritual and soulish. [00:12:42]
The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. He's using an example of something that's really sharp on this earth. Think of a surgeon's scalpel. I've heard that that knife is so sharp you could just lightly cut and it would cut deep. [00:14:18]
We believe that prophetic music can have a way of preparing our hearts to receive God's word, and the music itself can be prophetic. And that's why we're not big, we don't sing songs that are very light in words. You know, as you know, sometimes you think man there's so many words in all these songs. [00:20:00]
Music has a very, very powerful ability to influence and so that's why I wanted to mention that. We're very careful about what kind of music we sing and even what kind of music we listen to in our home, but as far as it pertains to the church, the music must have a spiritual value and build up. [00:22:48]
I want to show you another example of singing while I'm here and that's in the book of Mark. This is a very tender moment, perhaps one of the most tender moments in the gospels, and that is when they partook of the Lord's table, the Lord's supper. [00:30:19]
I see how easy it is and as one who loves music and enjoys it and loves to play instruments and learn new instruments and loves to see children learning instruments and singing, I love to sing. I still recognize the music has its place, and the devil will use music. [00:49:33]
The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. See the power there in the word of the cross, the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. [00:57:48]
