“Central United Methodist Church continues its commitment to community outreach through several ongoing initiatives. We would like to remind you of the caring and sharing campaign. Remember the little yellow cups? This is sponsored by Stanley Community Christian Ministries. Contributions will be collected on December 1st. Coins and bills may be placed in the yellow cups located throughout the church. Every donation can make a meaningful difference. We encourage your participation. Additionally, please remember our efforts toward the Hoping Hands Children's Christmas Store. Our goal is to raise $750.”
“A new signup sheet is available for volunteers interested in assisting with community in dinners through November and December. Those are on the bulletin board in the hallway. So if you enjoy cooking, you're invited to provide an entree side dish or dessert for up to about 20 guests. We they tell us on Thursday night and we serve on Fridays.”
“The annual community Christmas day dinner is back in action uh this year at First Presbyterian Church. They welcome all members of the community from 11:00 a.m. to 100 p.m. to come. Volunteers are needed for food preparation, cleanup, parking, and other essential roles. We have a signup sheet in the hallway for that as well.”
“The event is dining in only except for homebound individuals with each sponsoring downtown church delivering meals to their respective shutins. Engles will prepare the turkey. Albamarl Sweet Shop will provide all of the desserts. That's worth it just that alone. And the remaining items will be prepared by volunteers at the church.”
“While we understand many may have travel or family commitments, any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated. Uh up until yesterday when we learned that it was a little bit less, we thought we were going to have to uh donate $1,200, but it's $1,000 to cover event expenses. So, if you're interested in donating toward that, you can write a check out to the church and designate it for the community Christmas Day dinner.”
“So, we thank you so much for your continued compassion and dedication in serving our community.”
“Today I have a few announcements I'd like to run through uh quickly for us so we can get to our time of singing and worship. Uh, today at 300 p.m. there will be an installation service for our new district superintendent. Reverend Dr. Iny Young Lee. That service will be over at Main Street United Methodist Church and Bishop Carter uh will be presiding over that service. Tonight our connect youth will meet at 5:30 right here at Central. Tuesday we have our Zoom bingo.”
“Wednesday fellowship is on uh at 5:30. Please sign up on the bulletin board. The menu is out there. We we'll also have handbells at 6:00 and choir at 7:00. Also, starting this Wednesday, I know it's a little bit off, but because of Thanksgiving, that's just kind of how it had to work out. Uh we'll be starting our pastor's Bible study this week in which we're starting our Advent study.”
“So, if you want to do an Advent Bible study, you can do it on Wednesday night at 6. Please come on out and join us. Um, Friday, this coming Friday, uh, our missions team has got we're going to be serving a meal at the community in. Uh, you can please see Carmela about that. Uh, also this week on Saturday. Now, on Friday, if you baked any baked goods, you can bring them. But on Saturday, the women of faith are having their bake sale starting at 8:00 a.m. until noon in the fellowship hall.”
“And if you need anybody to test anything, I'm available. How are you? I'm just saying I'll sacrifice for the good of the bake sale. Amen. Come on, wake up y'all a little bit. We're going have to put in a coffee bar back here. Uh you might need to hit the drums early. Uh also, if you have not yet had an opportunity, you see some of our shoe boxes down here. Uh we have a few shoe boxes left. So, if anybody could help us out to fill up the last remaining shoe boxes, we got about 10 or 12 or so that need to be filled.”
“If you can do that, we can take them up until Wednesday, Wednesday night fellowship. So, grab one and then just bring it by the church office between now and Wednesday and we'll add it to the ones that we already have. Okay? Uh so, please keep that in mind for our Operation Christmas Child.”
“One of the things that we're also doing is remember we're doing our Advent devotionals. So, we want to collect your devotionals. Uh I've got mine right here for the first one. Uh, as you can see, it's it's about 250 words and a couple of questions and then a little two sentence, three sentence closing prayer. Uh, and so it's not it's not real, you know, long. It's not a it's not we're not doing a doctoral thesis here on a on a Bible verse.”
“We're simply doing some reflection work. Uh, and so actually in this one, I actually talked about some of our times when we were in the mountains. So, you know, really it's just connecting what you see in the real world with scripture and what that means for Advent and some of the themes of Advent. And so, um, please sign up on the board for a date, uh, out here.”
“If you have any other questions, Hazel Frick will be happy to help help you with that. Uh, I've got two, let's see, lastly for me, and then we'll go to Carmela here today. We next Sunday will be hosting our community Thanksgiving service right here at Central. It's uh Sunday, November 23rd, right here at 4 pm. Reverend Katie Limeberger from Main Street will be preaching. Uh and just found out this morning that there will be some light refreshments afterwards.”
“So, please come on out and show your support for the Thanksgiving service and then we will kind of transition down and have a a good chance to use fellowship with our brothers and sisters in the community who come to worship. Well, as today is the third Sunday, uh we would like to have our mission moment. And so, I'll turn things over to Carmel.”
