Paul was telling the Corinthians, and tells us, of course, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that to rely on these weapons takes faith in God instead of relying on our carnal methods. But truly, these spiritual weapons that we have are, as verse four says, they are mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds. [00:05:14]

Jesus fought for our salvation, for the salvation of His people. But how did Jesus fight for the salvation of His people? He did it by humbling Himself. Listen, Philippians chapter 2, starting at verse 6: Jesus, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation. [00:06:33]

The carnal human way is to overpower. It's to dominate, to manipulate, to outmaneuver. But the spiritual way, the Jesus way, is humble yourself, die to yourself, and let God show His resurrection power through you. Now, our spiritual weapons are scorned by the world, but they're feared by demonic powers. [00:07:22]

In context, we're talking about thoughts and perceptions that contradict the true knowledge of God and the nature of God. These strongholds are expressed, as it says there in verse 5, in arguments and in every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. [00:08:02]

We need to, as verse 5 says, bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Okay, this is what it's talking about: transforming our minds so that we no longer think in carnal, fleshly ways, but rather bringing our thoughts captive and made obedient to Jesus. [00:09:35]

We have the power in Jesus Christ to stop those thoughts and take dominion over them in the name of Jesus Christ. Remember what it says in Romans 12:2, that we should not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind. [00:10:23]

You belong to someone, and ultimately, you're going to serve either Jesus or you're going to serve Satan. But secondly, and this applies to those of you who are believers, you're Christians, you are a purchased possession of Jesus Christ. You belong to Him. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. [00:11:39]

Our minds are renewed by the word of God. So, Kate, this is what it means in a very practical way. When our thoughts are running away from us in carnal and fleshly directions, we are to stop those thoughts and, in the name of Jesus, correct those thoughts and put our mind on what you might say the Bible says are things above, not things below. [00:12:29]

There are many churches who do believe in the existence and in the value of spiritual gifts such as the gift of tongues but believe that they shouldn't be made the center of congregational life. That is, the exercise of those gifts of the Spirit should not be made the center of congregational life. [00:37:05]

I would not advise a believer to do this until they were very grounded in their own faith. So they need a good understanding of the Bible and of biblical theology first. That's number one. Number two, they should be sure that they are not a person that has what I would call an excessive attraction to novelty. [00:50:29]

I think pressing in close to God and learning how to forgive, especially if your parent is deceased and you're forgiving not so much that you can forgive that person in a transactional sense—they're gone—but forgiveness in the sense of truly letting go of holding on to feelings of hurt, to feelings of betrayal. [00:59:42]

We are commanded to honor our parents. Now, please understand this: honor does not mean obey. And as an adult son of my mother, who's a bit elderly now, it's absolutely my duty to honor her. Fortunately, my mom makes that pretty easy, but even if she didn't make it easy, it would be my responsibility to honor her. [01:02:32]
