“Here's the punch line I like to you might say that this text points out it was a day when the mercy seat in the temple left the temple and went to Tyre and Sidon. The mercy seat in the temple left the temple in Jesus and went to Tyre and Sidon. Mercy, God's mercy is what this text is about and who has access to it.”

“there will come a day when Judaism is no longer insular, when the veil of the temple is torn in two, when Jesus will yield up his spirit, when the earth will shake, tombs will be opened and the mercy seat of God will be available to all people. Today's text is but a foretaste of that event and that time.”

“Jesus again seems to reiterate what he knows, he reaffirms what he believes and it's not right to take the children's food and bread and toss it to the dogs. And the woman so beautifully replies, paraphrase, she says, I know I'm a dog. I know I don't belong. I know I'm not good enough. I know I don't belong to the covenant. I know I'm a foreigner. I don't deserve your attention. I know, I know, I know. How about just a crumb?”

“The mercy seat in the temple left the temple in Jesus and went to Tyre and Sidon. Mercy, God's mercy is what this text is about and who has access to it. Jesus seems caught. He's caught between a church that he grew up with where the mercy seat stays the temple, where God's mercy is available only to the Jews. And he says in this text, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. He's caught between that church of his history and God's new expanded vision of a mercy for all people, For all the nations, we're represented by this loud, irritating woman who continued to scream. That's what the text indicates. She was a screamer. Lord, help me, and said it loud. And she said it often over and over again.”
