#TableTurnsVision
“Not on the road to Emmaus when they were walking, not when they were given the bible study, not when when all the PowerPoint slides were going up, not when the pastor was preaching. That's not when the transformation took place. The transformation took place after the seminar, after the workshop, after everything had taken place, when they got together at the table and they did this and this. That's where their eyes were opened. This is the beautiful and terrifying and deeply challenging truth for our church today. Sermons can light a fire, but only the table turns a burning heart into a clear vision. What am I speaking about today? I'm talking about the power of the church in relational connection, folks.”

#PulpitVsTable
“I can breach my socks off. I can do my best, work hard at putting all the words together, and we can we can walk away feeling inspired. Your hearts may even be burning, praise God. But true transformation happens way after this space. We need a pulpit to ignite a heart and faithfully preach the word of God, but we're desperately in need of a table to open our eyes.”

#DivineRestraint
“The second thing, I I and I mentioned this earlier on, Jesus deliberately restrains their vision. And this is this is evident, as as you can see from the story. This is a passive divine action. Sight is intentionally withheld. In the culture that we live in, I want to see everything and know everything. But this story suggests that God sometimes delays revelation so that our hearts can be prepared first. And here's my difficult prayer that I offer to you today. May God keep us blind if that's the only way for us to see.”

#GodWalksOurPace
“But there's one thing I want you to understand about this story, is really important at this point, and that's for another sermon, but this is so crucial. Just just grab onto this for a moment. Jesus catches up to these men and travels at the speed of their sorrow. He walks at their pace. The all powerful God who was just resurrected from the dead chooses to walk at their sorrow. And yet, their eyes are kept from recognizing him. I want you to understand God deliberately restrains their sight so that their hearts can be prepared for the word of God.”

#BringYourHopes
“Third one, the paralysis of we had hoped. Here's the text I'm referring to. They had hoped Jesus was one thing, but in fact, he wasn't. The disciples confess that we had hoped. They were stuck looking at the cross as a tragic accident rather than a divine necessity. They had all the historical data, but they were interpreting this data through the lens of unmet expectations. It is deep within what you hoped for or had hoped for that you will find God's blessing for you. Bring what you have hoped for. Bring the unanswered prayers. Bring your broken dreams because Jesus has something for you right there in your unmet expectations,”

#BreakingBreadReveals
“Jesus takes over the table. He takes the bread. He blesses it. He breaks it. He gives it It's the exact same sequence of actions when he used to feed the 5,000, when he when he when he hosted the last supper. And it is this profoundly ordinary, shared, kind of messy interaction, breaking bread together, that this restraint, the passive restraint that the disciples felt were lifted. Lifted. This is the moment their eyes opened.”

#ReclaimTheTable
“Over the past few weeks, I've been speaking about reclaiming the table that Jesus built. We have realized that our dining rooms at home are are actual home tables, are where the kingdom begins. We've confronted the need to break our comfortable cliques, to sit with those who don't look like us, talk like us, act like us, vote the same as us. As disciples, our spiritual calling must govern our actions, not our personal preferences. Today, we're invited to realize a powerful truth. The evangelistic weight of relationship is not just a nice add on to the gospel, it's where the gospel is realized.”

#EncounterOverInformation
“I hoped many times that a sermon would fix my issues. I hoped many a times that that a bible study would sort out my life issues. I hoped many times that that that attending a particular event, that's related to the church would sort out my life to make god feel real. But evidence without encounter leaves a human heart, unfortunately, unchanged when our spiritual growth relies solely on sitting in pews and listening to sermons. We're no different than these two men walking on the road to Emmaus.”
