Building Strong Foundations Through Divine Connections

Summary

Foundations matter, both in our homes and in our lives. Sometimes, we discover that what we’ve been building on is rotting or unstable, and God, in His grace, gives us the opportunity to dig out the old and start anew. This grace is not just for personal restoration, but also for the relationships and connections He brings into our lives—what we call “divine connections.” These are not accidental; they are orchestrated by God for His purpose and our growth.

Scripture shows us that faith and spiritual gifts are often passed down through generations, as Paul reminded Timothy of his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. There is a spiritual bloodline, a legacy of faith, that connects us beyond natural relationships. In the body of Christ, we share a “like precious faith,” a spiritual DNA that draws us together and empowers us to walk in our callings. Not everyone will share this same spiritual blood type, and it’s important to discern who God has truly connected us with.

Divine connections are not just about comfort or convenience. Sometimes, God will stretch us through these relationships, challenging us to grow deeper in faith and to step into new areas of ministry. These connections must be recognized, honored, and nurtured. They are meant to strengthen and establish us, much like super glue sets quickly and holds fast. When we come together in unity, side by side, something wonderful is released—mutual encouragement, comfort, and empowerment.

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of divine partnerships: Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Barnabas, Mary and Elizabeth. These relationships were purposeful, often crossing generational lines, and always advancing God’s kingdom. We are created to connect, and when we gather in faith, our corporate prayers and agreement have exponential power. One can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand.

Personal stories remind us that divine connections can change the trajectory of our lives. Sometimes, God brings people into our path who impart new revelation, encouragement, or anointing. Even when circumstances are difficult or outcomes are not as we hoped, God’s plan and purpose remain unchanged. Our role is to stay connected to Jesus, the true vine, and to the people He places in our lives, allowing the Holy Spirit to fan the flames of our gifts and callings. Each of us is called to be a minister of reconciliation, reaching out, building up, and helping others grow in grace.

Key Takeaways

- Foundations must be examined and, if necessary, rebuilt. Just as a rotting deck requires digging out and reframing, our spiritual lives sometimes need a fresh start. God’s grace empowers us to begin again, ensuring that what we build is sturdy and lasting. [02:36]

- Spiritual legacy is both natural and supernatural. Faith can be passed down through family lines, but there is also a spiritual bloodline that connects us to others in the body of Christ. Recognizing and honoring these connections allows us to receive and impart spiritual gifts, continuing the legacy of faith. [05:23]

- Not every relationship is a divine connection. Some connections are for convenience or comfort, but true divine connections are orchestrated by God for His purpose. Discernment is needed to recognize these relationships, and we must be willing to let go of connections that are not aligned with God’s plan. [10:22]

- Divine connections require intentionality and nurturing. When we come together in unity, side by side, the anointing is multiplied, and we are co-encouraged and co-comforted. These relationships strengthen and establish us, enabling us to stand strong in faith and fulfill our callings. [15:11]

- Staying connected to Jesus and to the people He places in our lives is essential for growth. Even when circumstances are challenging or outcomes are not as we desire, God’s plan remains. The Holy Spirit fans the flames of our gifts, and as we abide in Christ and gather with others, we are empowered to be ministers of reconciliation and to bear much fruit. [27:40]

### Bible Reading

1. 2 Timothy 1:2-6 (ESV)
> To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

2. Romans 1:7-12 (ESV)
> To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

3. John 15:1, 5, 7-8 (ESV)
> “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser... I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing... If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”

Devotional

Day 1: Stirring Up the Gift—A Legacy of Faith

God calls each of us to recognize and rekindle the spiritual gifts He has placed within us, often passed down through generations of faithful believers. Just as Timothy received a legacy of faith from his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice, we are reminded that our spiritual inheritance is both a privilege and a responsibility. The laying on of hands, the encouragement of spiritual mentors, and the support of our faith community all serve to fan the flame of God’s calling in our lives. No matter your background, you are invited to stir up the gift within you and walk boldly in your divine purpose, knowing that God’s grace empowers you to start anew, even if your foundation feels weak or broken. [05:23]

2 Timothy 1:2-6 (ESV)
"To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands."

Reflection: What spiritual gift or calling has God placed in your life that needs to be rekindled today, and how can you take a practical step to fan that flame?

Day 2: Like Precious Faith—The Power of Spiritual Partnership

There is a unique strength and encouragement that comes from surrounding yourself with people of “like precious faith.” When believers connect through the righteousness of Christ, they share in a divine partnership that empowers them to walk in God’s promises and purposes. These connections are not accidental; they are orchestrated by God to help us grow, remain accountable, and stay on the right track. Whether in friendships, mentorships, or church family, seek out those who share your spiritual DNA and are committed to pursuing God’s best together. [09:31]

2 Peter 1:1 (ESV)
"Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ."

Reflection: Who in your life do you recognize as having “like precious faith,” and how can you intentionally nurture and honor that spiritual partnership this week?

Day 3: Side by Side—Strengthening and Establishing One Another

When believers gather together, something powerful is released—mutual encouragement, comfort, and the impartation of spiritual gifts. Paul longed to be with the church in Rome not only to give but also to receive, knowing that faith grows deeper in community. Just as super glue sets fast and holds things together, so too does the anointing of God quickly establish and strengthen us when we come together in unity. Don’t underestimate the importance of assembling with other believers; your presence and faith can help someone else stand strong, and theirs can do the same for you. [15:11]

Romans 1:7-12 (ESV)
"To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine."

Reflection: How can you intentionally encourage or strengthen someone in your church family today, either through a word, a prayer, or an act of service?

Day 4: Abiding in the True Vine—Connection with Christ

Our most vital connection is with Jesus, the true vine. When we remain attached to Him and let His words abide in us, we are empowered to bear much fruit and live out our calling as His disciples. This abiding relationship is the source of all spiritual life, growth, and answered prayer. God designed us not only to connect vertically with Him but also horizontally with others, so that together we can grow in grace, encourage one another, and fulfill His purposes. Make it your priority to stay connected to Jesus daily, allowing His life to flow through you and into every relationship and circumstance. [27:40]

John 15:1, 7-8 (ESV)
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser... If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples."

Reflection: What is one practical way you can deepen your connection with Jesus today, ensuring that you are abiding in Him and His words?

Day 5: Divine Connections—Growing in Grace and Purpose Together

God orchestrates divine connections in our lives—relationships that are purposeful, life-giving, and essential for our growth in grace and the fulfillment of our calling. These connections may stretch us, challenge us, and encourage us to step into new levels of faith and service. Whether through spiritual leaders, friends, or unexpected encounters, God uses others to impart wisdom, encouragement, and strength. Be attentive to the people God places in your path, recognizing that you are both a recipient and a giver in these divine partnerships. As you honor and nurture these connections, you will find yourself growing, flourishing, and helping others do the same. [30:36]

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (ESV)
"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!"

Reflection: Who is one person God has divinely connected you with that you can encourage, support, or pray for today, and how will you act on that prompting?

Quotes

Have any of you ever felt like your foundation might be rotted? You have to get in there and you have to dig that foundation out that was there. And you have to reframe it, start that structure all over again. Thank God. He empowers us with that grace to start all over again. Divine connections will stretch us. We come in here on Sunday morning and have here Pastor Brant preached to us. Does he stretch us? Oh my goodness, we go oh put my toes underneath the chair so he won't step on them because he's stretching us. He wants to encourage and and get us to dig deeper in the word and stronger in our faith but then we are to connect and make disciples ourselves. So when my husband went home to be with the Lord, I didn't, I didn't quit. But I kept making my confession that I am healed and I'm walking in his divine plan, his purpose, doing what he's called me to do. His giftings and his callings are without repentance because circumstances changes that. not change his plan and purpose for each and every one of us we continue on to do what he's called us to do. We have to have our divine connection with Jesus Christ have to no ifs ands and buts but you know he desires and he designed us to have our divine connections this way to grow in grace to grow in his giftings to grow in the callings that he's placed on our lives and to encourage us to build us up it's just as important. So, therefore, let us leave today connected to Jesus, the divine. Become aware, good unconscious, think about it, of his divine connections he places in our lives. So, we might realize the divine connections are on purpose, for his purpose, that we can grow, grow. In faith, in grace. [00:30:36] (45 seconds)  #FanTheFlamesOfFaith Edit Clip Translate Clip

``But it's time to fan the flames. Fan the flames. Each and every one of us have been called. Father, we are all ministers of reconciliation. We are called to grow and then to reach out and make disciples. I heard it all my life, that Jesus is coming soon. I will tell you this. It's a day closer today than it was yesterday. As we allow the Holy Spirit to fan those flames, the breath in our lives, we will see. We will see. Let's pray. Let's pray. Things that God has promised us Don't lose heart Don't give up On what God placed in you You feel like sometimes it's just a You're just a dead stump Sitting on a log and nothing's happening But it's time to stir up those gifts Allow the Holy Spirit to burn off that log That's trying to hold you back And to hold you down And allow the Holy Spirit to just defend that flame.
