1. "Honestly, a huge factor in the huge culture collision that is what I would call the generational battle. We all see it. We probably don't need to dive into it too much. We talk about it in our small group, like every session, right, Carol? Where it comes up where eventually somebody will say, you know what? Socrates talked about this and how those darn kids these days are the stinking worse, and then eventually you loop back around, right? Like everything that you might hate about kids these days, you might hate about it because your parents were that."

2. "For each of us in this church, we have generations that come before, that come after. We adopt or overcorrect. But when I look to the book of Daniel, for the younger generation specifically, and older generation, Sandy, we'll get to you. Don't worry, this sermon's for everybody. I think the better response we learn from this book is not to fully adopt, not to fully overcorrect, but to build. Every single one of us has had a foundation established for us by the generation that has come before us. There might be a few cracks in the foundation because nobody's perfect, but there is a foundation."

3. "To adopt is to fully live with the cracks that are already there. To overcorrect is to build a whole new system. But what if we just built off of what's there and fixed? What if we worked together with the older generations to fill in some of the cracks? And just build the next floor of the house so that our children can build the next floor of the house and the next thing you know, we have a home that we can all live in together. For the younger generation, our job is to continue to build off of what's already been established rather than tear it all down and start again to honor the legacy that's come before."

4. "This sermon isn't an older generation, just let go sermon. It's not a younger generation, grab on and sprint ahead sermon. This sermon is a let's learn to run, together sermon. Let's learn to honor the runner who came before, building off the foundations of what's been given. Let's learn when to let go so that they can run for themselves. If I'm young, the world is not only mine and I wouldn't have any of it that weren't who came before me. And I can't just try to bulldoze them. If I'm more seasoned, the world is still mine, but it is theirs too. We have to give them a voice within it."

5. "Younger generations, we have a choice. We can focus on mistakes and repeat them, or we can shift our eyes and repeat our parents' success. And for us who are fathers, we can help to share what worked for us and what didn't. To be open about our successes and our failures, and to invest, to mentor, and to love our children and grandchildren, and help them build the world that we've had the privilege of investing in."

6. "If I'm an older generation, my job is to share my story with my kids as long as they'll listen and all of it. I have a huge temptation to paint myself in a very positive light. made a lot of mistakes. I've made a lot of failures. There are definitely cracks in the foundations that I've built. Man, I want my kids to have better than I have. You know? If I am one of the more seasoned, my gift is to mentor. If I'm looking at the generations that have come before me, my job is to build. It's to step up and continue to build off of the foundations that have been made for me, to work alongside with the older generation and honor that legacy, not just completely dash it all aside."

7. "At some point, we've got to let them run with the baton or else they're just going to drop it and leave it with us. We have a privilege. When I look at this church, older, younger, we have the kids running and giving high fives. We have kids who sometimes wait at the door to hold it open for us. We can see more of that if we empower them to do it. Let's run the race together. Younger generation, let's grab the baton. Older generation, let's run with them. Let's continue to build the foundation that God has for us, running with fervor the race that has been laid out for us by Jesus Christ, building into a legacy, that North Collins Wesleyan can have for our grandchildren and their grandchildren."
