#ObadiahHitsHard
“``And Obadiah wants you to feel like you've been punched in the gut. That's why there's so much intensity. It's all building up to this one moment. Kids, do you realize how awful this is? This is like if you were getting beat up by a bully at school and your brother joined in to help the bully, to help beat you up. That's the pain that exiled Israel has. That's the pain that motivated Psalm one thirty seven. God, did you see what has happened to us? Are you gonna do something about this? God, where are you? Remember this against them. And Obadiah has now come to this exiled Israelites with an answer. God is doing something about it. God is fully aware of Edom's unloving activeness. And God acts kinda like a police officer, meticulously writing down each sin in a, quite literally, enlist. Each sin is accounted for. No sin escapes God's glance.”

#WarAgainstGodNotJustEdom
“All the violence ever done to Israel has actually been a war against God. Remember the prophecy to Rebecca, the mother of Jacob and Esau? There are two nations in your womb. The older shall serve the younger. God purposed before Jacob and Esau were even born to love Jacob. Jacob is God's chosen tool to bring forth the promised king David, even to bring forth the promised messiah, Jesus Christ. That's the promise to Jacob's offspring. You will be my people. Esau, the firstborn, the circumcised brother of Jacob, the grandson of Abraham was not God's people. And the same goes with Esau's children. So what Obadiah is doing with all of these family terms is he's revealing the true two sides of the conflict. It's not Israel versus Edom. It's not even Jacob versus Esau. It is God's people versus God's enemies.”

#CallsForRepentanceAndMercy
“That's how much God loves his people. He records every wrong ever done against the church. And he does something else. God commands good behavior. Obadiah's prohibitions are not bound to the past. It's not simple condemning of what Edom has done. But rather these are now calls for present good behavior. These are calls for repentance. Stop doing that. Turn away from that behavior. God doesn't simply condemn evil living. He calls for godly living. Even godly living for his enemies. Think about that. Edom has well deserved the punishment of being wiped off the face of the map. And yet God doesn't immediately do that. Instead, God gives a message of judgment that has been accompanied by mercy.”

#PrepareForJudgmentPrayForEnemies
“Ed Edom and Israel's court date was long, long ago. But once again, there is still another court date that's coming, the day of judgment. Are you preparing for that day? Are you helping your enemies to prepare for that day? Remember that God still has his church in mind in this day of judgment. That's on the forefront of his mind while judging enemies. God is going to judge for your sake. He knows all the sins that have been committed against the church, And yet he still calls them to repentance. If you remember that, then love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. Call them to repentance. Since God records the wrongdoing of our nearest enemies, we must depend on God's just and merciful judgment. We've experienced it firsthand with Christ. May we hope that others get that same experience.”
