Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1) "What I thought was dead is actually alive. I began to think about that moment, and I think back to the first 24 years of my life. I was alive. I was breathing. I was laughing. I was enjoying life. And yet, dead inside. I had no life. Paul speaks to us here in Romans in the 6th chapter. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ, we were set free from the power of sin." [02:49] (46 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2) "We can choose death or life. In sin, we're like walking dead. Kind of like that guy that was in the wash. Thought he was dead, but no, he was actually alive. First 24 years of my life, I was walking dead. I partied, I laughed, I joked, I worked, I loved, I cared, I hated. I experienced anger, regret, forgiveness. Yet I was dead inside. I was a zombie. Any of you ever watched a zombie movie? There's zombies and vampires everywhere, man. I don't understand it." [07:39] (38 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

3) "Receiving Jesus isn't just about getting into heaven. It's about living in freedom. And in victory. Are you living today friends? Are you choosing death? I'm a professional counselor by vocation. So I work with folks all the time. Couples. I work with people struggling in addiction of all kinds. People that know Jesus. People that know Jesus as Savior. And they're in the midst of a divorce. Families broken up. Unforgiveness about what's happened in the past. Bitterness. Contempt has creeped into their lives." [14:21] (37 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4) "So what's in our lives that keeps us in bondage, keeps us from living in freedom? Idols, anything we put above God, addiction of all kinds, lust, pride, bitterness, unforgiveness. Any of you struggling with unforgiveness today? For years, I struggled to forgive my dad. I didn't want to forgive him. I had tasted redemption. Redemption and salvation through Christ. And I hated my dad. Those two things can't live together. So I knew something had to be fixed. Grief, loss, broken promises, crushed expectations." 5) "When I allow Jesus to come into my heart, it's like he walked around with a little flashlight. All those places of pain and hurt that had built up over the years. Those places of trauma, abuse, all that pain, all that unforgiveness, all that hate. He went at my speed. He didn't charge ahead of me. He just said, would you like to look at this now? Room by room by room. He opened my heart. The chains fell off. I was free." [22:56] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6) "When I received Jesus, I thought, man, there's no way he can come in and clean all of this. Because, you know, Paul writes that he's the chief of sinners. And I'd be like, hold my beer, Paul. If he was the chief of sinners, I was the first mate for sure. Made a lot of bad decisions. I could write a book about bad decisions. I've got a master's degree in bad decisions. And yet Jesus still pursued me. Just like he's pursuing you. Are you choosing life? or death, what's holding you back today?" [26:17] (37 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
