“And I mean, we, like every single one of us in here. Like, church is not some procedure to be followed. I know it probably feels that way right now. It's not a four step process kind of thing. I think we can all see the limits of that, can't we? Church is us living into God's story here and now, just doing our best, praying for guidance, and holding space in our lives for one another along this journey. Church is a bunch of imperfect, forgetful, stubborn humans coming together because of God's love, led out of darkness and into light again and again and again and again.”

“The breath of God's spirit blows through this place that the saints that came before us built, called by the same God into the same story. The same story that promised Abraham's descendants and delivered Israel from slavery through the wilderness. The same story that called the prophets to speak. The same story that announces God with us, Christ and the cross. The story that inspired Paul and the early church. That same story. That same call, and the same God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is yours. Peace is yours. Forgiveness is yours.”

“These verses are not dictating a procedure. Rather, they are depicting a way of being that determines how we approach difficult situations and sin. These verses are pretty specific to dealing with conflict and confession about living in a way of love that we've heard about in Romans. And not as a way to prove ourselves right or better than others or to earn God's favor, but living in love like holding our tongue and not gossiping and caring enough about each other to do the hard work of talking it out privately.”
