Paul commands the Corinthians to follow him only as he follows Christ, then presses them back into the ordinances of God’s worship. Paul does not treat the order of men and women like a side issue or a little church preference. The text says, “the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God,” and that order is not up for editing just because the culture hates it.
First Corinthians 11 puts head coverings, worship, authority, and creation order right in the middle of spiritual warfare. The woman ought to have power on her head “because of the angels,” and biblical womanhood becomes a beautiful thing that hell despises. Satan does not hate loud rebellion dressed up as strength. Satan hates quiet, modest, submissive, prayerful womanhood that is precious in the sight of God and pushes back on hell by obeying God.
The same text turns hard toward the brothers on Father’s Day. Paul says the man is “the image and glory of God,” and the woman is “the glory of the man.” Paul reaches back to Genesis and reminds the church that Adam was made first, given dominion work, placed in the garden to tend and keep it, and only then was Eve made from him and for him as a suitable helper. God did not create Eve as an independent rerun of Adam from another clump of dirt. God put Adam to sleep, took from his side, and fashioned a woman for his mission.
A man who knows who he is in Christ scares the devil. A man who stands in his God-given place, says yes to what is holy and no to what is wicked, makes hell work harder to get to his wife, his children, his church, and his community. His authority is not permission to act like an ogre. His authority is for holiness, sacrifice, patience, repentance, protection, and grace.
Christ alone makes devils tremble, and Christ alone triumphed over principalities and powers at the cross. Yet men and women only push back on hell when obedience happens in Christ, by Christ, and according to Christ’s Word. Calling plain disobedience a secondary doctrine will not wash. The issue is not primary, secondary, or tertiary. The issue is whether God’s people will do what God says because Christ is Lord.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Disobedience carries no anointing. Obedience is not a decorative extra added to revival language. The text presses the point that power does not come from volume, passion, or religious energy when God’s order is being ignored. A soul can shout for reformation while quietly resisting the very Word that reforms. [66:14]
- 2. Christ alone makes devils tremble. Spiritual warfare is not won by personality, masculinity, femininity, or church culture. Christ destroys the works of the devil, spoils principalities and powers, and triumphs through the cross. Any authority exercised outside of Him becomes noise without heaven’s backing. [68:52]
- 3. Obedience is not secondary doctrine. The categories of primary, secondary, and tertiary doctrine cannot be used to excuse plain rebellion. A child cannot refuse a father’s command by calling obedience a lesser doctrine, and the same logic stands before God. The question becomes painfully simple: will the Word be received as Lord’s command or treated as optional advice? [71:10]
- 4. Satan hates men in position. A godly man in place is not merely present in the house. He is standing at the door of his life, saying yes to holiness and no to destruction. His authority becomes a wall of grace when it is humble, sacrificial, repentant, and firm in the Word. [83:20]
- 5. Adam had purpose before Eve. Genesis gives Adam dominion work before Eve is formed, and that order matters. A wife is not meant to become a man’s whole mission, as though staring lovingly were enough to build a household. God gives the man work, then gives the woman as a suitable helper fitted to that calling.
