The chaos of uprooted trees and flooded basements laid bare what truly matters. Social media distractions faded as neighbors asked, “Is your family okay?” and shared generators. Crises dissolve superficial concerns, revealing the raw core of human need: safety, sustenance, and solidarity. The storm stripped life down to what mattered most. Trees came down, power lines broke, basements filled, freezers thawed, weddings and funerals got interrupted, and plans got humbled fast. The storm exposed how much of life can feel urgent until crisis shows what is actually important. Social media likes, grass cutting, and HOA complaints got quiet, while the real questions came forward: “Is your family okay? Do you need help? Can help come your way?”

James chapter 1 calls God’s people to “consider it pure joy” when trials come, not because storms are fun, but because God can use them. James does not say to enjoy the storm. Faith gives peace in the storm because faith stays connected to another source. Faith does not pretend the basement is not flooded or that the loss is not real. Faith says God is still good when everything is not okay. Like a generator when the grid goes down, faith draws from a power that does not depend on the world’s power working right.

Community helps God’s people survive the storm. Neighbors came outside, people shared generators, meals were cooked, and families at the Mosley Hotel were served when they had no power, no water, and no way to return the favor. The church is bigger than one person, and God’s people are not meant to weather storms alone. Psalm 1 pictures the blessed person as a tree planted by streams of water, and trees survive storms better when their roots are intertwined with others.

God does not waste the storm. Storms test, faith steadies, community strengthens, and God grows His people through what they never would have chosen.
