“Jesus promised another comforter. And he pointed out that that comforter, the Holy Spirit, would dwell within each of us. Every single bornagain believer, every single person that has placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ would have the spirit of God abiding in them. That truth brings us great comfort in the midst of the many trials that we will face in this life. It provides us with a confidence and a courage that promotes a calm when the storms begin to rage.”
“The real question is, do we abide in Christ? We know that he lives in us in the person of the Holy Spirit. We have the promise and we have the proof. Even we recognize his presence in our life at times more than others of course. But the fact that he remains in us, that he lives in us, that he abides in us, that he indwells us is without question a promise that we can hold on to, that we can truly believe.”
“As clear as the word of God is concerning our need to abide in Christ, let's be honest, that command is not always followed through with. We find ourselves at times not necessarily in the kind of relationship with Christ that we ought to. We find ourselves rather preoccupied with life or overwhelmed in our circumstances or distracted in the moment. And God would have us exercise his lordship by abiding in him. That means being connected to him.”
“He alone can complete us. As educated as we may be, as self-sufficient as we are, as determined to succeed as we may find ourselves, the believer understands that none of it can truly satisfy or make us complete. Only abiding in him can do that. Only having that intimacy and that closeness that comes through a relationship with Christ can do that.”
“Only through continued connection and constant fellowship can we find that elusive goal of completeness in Jesus Christ. Amen. It's one thing to know that we're saved. It's one thing to know that he lives in us. It's another thing to feel and to experience completeness.”
“First of all, one of the benefits of abiding. I believe abiding produces much fruit. We see that in the scripture in verse 5. He says, "I am the vine. Ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit." So we see that being connected to Christ is kind of like a branch being connected to a vine.”
“If we're going to reach our full potential, if we're going to truly be bearers of fruit and much fruit, then we must be truly connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to be pursuing him and pursuing Christ's likeness. Fruitfulness in the Christian life is if you would would be possessing the fruit of the spirit even you know we talk about fruit and bearing much fruit abiding in Christ.”
“But when it comes to the spirit and the fruit of the spirit, it's not a matter of saying, well, you know, I really do a good job of loving people. I'm really good at that. So, I'm spiritfilled, but I just struggle with the joy side. I just struggle. I just find life just kind of weighs me down at times. Oh, I have compassion for people and I love others, but you know, I just sometimes I'm just buming all the I just find myself buming.”
“But man, that joy just gets to me. But I'm I'm fil Yeah. Are you filled with Oh, yeah. I think so because I'm really I love people. I love people. or we lack that faith that we should have or that gentleness that we should possess. Yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm really filled with the spirit, but I I I find myself I'm pretty hard on people sometimes, especially my wife or especially my kids. Don't have much gentleness.”
“When we are abiding in Christ, then the fruit of the spirit will be evident in our life. Amen. Evident in our life. I mean that that's that's that I think that we can all agree that you start talking about fruit, fruit of the spirit for sure. But I do believe that not only does, you know, fruitfulness in the Christian life show up as possessing the fruit of the spirit, but I think it also shows up in procuring disciples for Christ.”
“There's something attractive about being filled with the spirit. There's something attractive about abiding in Christ that draws people to us. Even sometimes folks that otherwise may not be too keen on the Lord. I just think that this element of fruit is important. And when we are abiding in Christ, I believe the fruit of the spirit and disciples for Christ are things that we'll start to see more of.”
“But what we do understand is this and that we can't deny is this that you and I determine how close to God we will be. Nobody else makes that decision for us. God doesn't even make that decision. And I'm gonna I'm gonna say something. You don't have to agree with it. And I don't I don't It doesn't matter. But let me tell you this. I believe there are other there are some that are closer to God than others.”
“There are some that are closer to God than others. The question isn't whether God is saying, "I want him or her closer to me." I'm still convinced that those three that were in the garden with Jesus Christ had taken steps toward him more. I think that they were the inner circle because they put themselves in the inner circle. How close do you want to be to God then?”
“Getting closer to God ensures that we're plugged into his supply line, that we're better equipped to communicate with him, and that all translates to better communication then, which leads to a more answered prayer. In Matthew 7:1, the Bible says, "If ye then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly father, how much more shall your father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"”
“See, I'm convinced that God demonstrates his love by extending or placing boundaries in place to protect us. We call them commandments. We call them statutes. God gives us the commandments. God gives us statutes. God outlines and lays out some guard rails for us in order to protect us, not only from ourselves, but protect us in every area of our life. And as we obey the word of God, I believe in that sense we abide in his love.”
“We look at it like it's some kind of curse sometimes, like it's a burden to bear to obey the word of God. I mean, I got to do that and I got to do that. I'm not allowed to do this. And the Bible says, "Thou shalt not do that." Well, that's no fun, but it's sure safe. Sure. No physical relationship outside of marriage. Let me tell you, it might not be fun, but can I tell you something? It's safe.”
