Being Led by the Holy Spirit: A Transformative Journey

Summary

Good morning, church! Who's happy to be in the house of the Lord today? Amen. It's always a joy to gather together and worship our Savior. Before diving into today's message, I want to share a few announcements. Last Sunday was Fourth Sunday, and we had an incredible turnout for our food pantry and food bank donations. We also raised $960 for the children on the mountain in Honduras. Thank you for your generosity and for being a church with a giving heart. Remember, if you have children, sign them up for our camp. It's not just a camp for them; it's a vacation for you, parents! Also, next Sunday after church, we'll have a meeting about church security. If you're interested, please stay after the service.

Now, let's dive into today's message about being led by the Holy Spirit. We often say, "Lead in the Spirit to impact the world," and this is rooted in 1 John 2:12-14, which speaks about maturing from a child to a young person to a spiritual father. To be led by the Spirit means you're maturing and ready to lead others to Jesus. But how do you know you're being led by the Spirit? Romans 8:14 says, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." It's crucial to be led by the Spirit to be recognized as a child of God.

To be led by the Spirit, you must first be born again. Jesus was born of the Spirit, and so must we be. John 3:6 says, "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." When you're born again, you start to see and hear the things of the Lord. This spiritual rebirth gives you a new nature, one that calls you to hear and obey the voice of God.

Once you're born again, the next step is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Matthew 4:1 tells us that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, but this happened after He was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit means you're filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and goodness. These fruits of the Spirit will naturally flow out of your life.

After being filled, you must be led by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit doesn't drive you; He leads you. You are not a car for the Holy Spirit to get around; you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood. The closer you are to the Holy Spirit, the more you will hear His voice. It's not about asking, "How do I hear from the Holy Spirit?" but rather, "How can I stay closer to Him every day?"

Finally, to be used by the Holy Spirit, you must go through the process of being born again, filled, and led. Only then can you be used effectively. This process is about imitating Jesus Christ, who was born of the Spirit, filled by the Spirit, led by the Spirit, and used by the Spirit. Jesus depended on and defended the Holy Spirit in public, and so should we.

In conclusion, if you want to be used by the Holy Spirit, you must first be born again, then be filled, and then be led. This is a process that requires faith, obedience, and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. God has something better for you, but you must be willing to give up the good to receive the better. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you. Amen.

Devotional

Day 1: Generosity and Community Outreach
Our church's commitment to generosity and community outreach is a testament to our faith. Last Sunday, we raised $960 for the children in Honduras and collected a significant amount of food for our local food pantry. This act of giving not only helps those in need but also strengthens our community and glorifies God. Let us continue to be a church that gives generously and loves unconditionally. [21:15]

Acts 20:35 (ESV): "In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Reflection: Think of a specific way you can contribute to your community this week. How can you extend your generosity to someone in need today?

Day 2: The Importance of Being Led by the Spirit
To be led by the Spirit is to be recognized as a child of God. Romans 8:14 emphasizes that those who are led by the Spirit are sons of God. This means that being led by the Spirit is not just a spiritual luxury but a necessity for our identity in Christ. It involves a process of maturing from a spiritual child to a spiritual father, ready to lead others to Jesus. [29:31]

Galatians 5:25 (ESV): "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."

Reflection: Reflect on a recent decision you made. Were you led by the Spirit in that decision? How can you seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in your daily choices?

Day 3: Spiritual Rebirth and New Nature
Being born again by the Holy Spirit gives us a new nature, one that is in conflict with our old self. This new nature calls us to hear and obey the voice of God. It's a transformative process that changes how we see and interact with the world. Spiritual rebirth is the foundation for being led and used by the Holy Spirit. [36:11]

Ezekiel 36:26-27 (ESV): "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules."

Reflection: Consider an area of your life where you still struggle with your old nature. How can you invite the Holy Spirit to transform this area and give you a new heart?

Day 4: The Process of Being Filled and Led by the Spirit
Before you can be led by the Spirit, you must be filled with the Spirit. This filling is not a one-time event but a continuous process. Being filled with the Spirit means being filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and goodness. These fruits of the Spirit will naturally flow out of your life, impacting those around you. [47:44]

Ephesians 5:18-19 (ESV): "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart."

Reflection: Identify one fruit of the Spirit you feel is lacking in your life. How can you cultivate this fruit through prayer and daily practice?

Day 5: Obedience and Faith in Hearing God's Voice
Hearing God's voice requires faith and obedience. It's not about asking how to hear from the Holy Spirit but about staying close to Him every day. The closer you are to the Holy Spirit, the more you will hear His voice. This relationship is built on trust and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. God always has something better for you, but you must be willing to give up the good to receive the better. [59:12]

Isaiah 30:21 (ESV): "And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left."

Reflection: Think of an area in your life where you need to step out in faith. What is one practical step you can take today to obey God's leading in this area?

Quotes

### Quotes for Outreach

1. "You try to focus on change to fix your walk and you're not supposed to focus on change. You're supposed to focus on growth. When you're focused on changing your life based on what the scripture says, you're trying to do it in the flesh versus depending on the Holy Spirit. You're trying to grow closer to him. Is anybody getting what I'm telling you?" [42:50](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

2. "If we're going to be overcomers, we've got to let the Holy Spirit speak into us. Our lives. It's not about how much you're changing. It's about how much you're growing. That's what makes the change so good. Remember what we've been talking about. Jesus said, follow me and I will make you follow me, imitate me, and I will make you an overcomer. I will make you have freedom. I will give you the tools that you need. If you follow me, quit trying to go. Do it yourself. Just follow me. And he will produce in you." [45:41](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

3. "The key to hearing God's voice is putting greater emphasis on your closeness to him. It's the key. If you're trying to hear God's voice and you're struggling with it, you got to get closer to the Lord. He's going to do it. It's always relationship before revelation. Always. Matthew 6 31 says, therefore, do not be anxious saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear for the Gentiles? Seek after all these things and your heavenly father knows that you need them all, but seek first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness and all these things will be added to you." [59:12](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

4. "If you nurture the nature he's given you, it will grow inside of you. Amen. And this is how you nurture it. As you go, am I? Am I? Do I? Do I really believe that the Lord is my savior and my Lord? Do I? Am I allowing the nature to start to change me and come out so I can spill it all over other people? Right. Or do I feel the compassion of the Lord? Do I feel this conflict and I'm kicking this junk out of my life? This is how you nurture the nature that God has given you and it will grow in your life. Amen." [47:08](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

5. "If you're filled with the fruit of the Spirit, you're going to be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness. And that's what's going to be coming out of your life. Who wants a little more joy coming out of their life? A little more love from the other way? How many people you know that need you to show them the love of Christ? Amen. They're like going, man, this guy said they believe in Jesus Christ. When are they going to start pouring out the goodies so I can make a decision? Right? What are you filled with? What's coming out of your life? God's nature and character will be on full display if you're filled with the things of the Holy Spirit." ### Quotes for Members

1. "When you get a new nature, the result of your new nature is your conduct. Here's one of our biggest problems, church. You try to focus on change to fix your walk and you're not supposed to focus on change. You're supposed to focus on growth. When you're focused on changing your life based on what the scripture says, you're trying to do it in the flesh versus depending on the Holy Spirit. You're trying to grow closer to him. Is anybody getting what I'm telling you? That's so powerful to think about because I'm trying to fix, I'm going to fix my anger attitude. I'm going to fix the anger in my life. I'm just going to get rid of anger. Like you're literally telling yourself with anger that you're going to get rid of anger instead of going. What does the Lord have to say? How can I grow in the Lord? Because the growth and the Lord is what produces the change." [42:50](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

2. "We want to hear God's voice, but in truth, you really don't want to because you're addicted to comfort. Listen to me, church. When you listen to the Lord and he speaks, he's going to tell you to do things that you may not want to do. I was at Kohl's this week, and just so you all know, a little ministry push. I went and bought 14 pairs of shoes and added to our shoe pile back there because we're going to bless kids. It's going to happen. And they're on sale at Kohl's right now in the clearance aisle. 50% off, 50% off. So I was buying Nike tennis shoes for 15 bucks. I was like, let's go, Jesus. Jesus understands sales. Come on, ladies. You know what I'm talking about. And so in order to do all this, they take me back to customer service. I go back to customer service. I go back to customer service. I go back to customer service. I go back to customer service. And Mr. Jimmy's back there helping me out. And there's a bunch of people back there. And I'm up there with Stacy. And this is what he says to me. He says this. He goes, hey, I'm only working with one arm today because I have some gout in my wrist and I have some pain. I'm like, OK, here we go. You know what I'm talking about? You're like, I mean, if the Holy Spirit is speaking, he's slapping right across your face. I'm standing here with Jimmy and I'm like, OK, all right. That's what we're going to do. We're going to pray. But here's the thing. I'm at customer service. It's also the line to do the returns for Amazon. You ever been to Kohl's at the Amazon return line? There's like 20 people deep in it. And I'm standing here and in my mind, I'm going, I'm about to hold this whole thing up and pray for Jimmy. And I said, yes, because I knew the Holy Spirit was trying to witness to the people. And so as I started to go up there, my beautiful wife, she's like pushing me out of the way ready to pray for him. She's just like on it. I'm like, I got this. Jimmy, let me pray for your hand. I want to pray healing over your hand right now. He reached his arm out and I laid hands and my wife did and we just prayed over him and everybody got to watch and see. And I heard the Lord's voice and I did what he told me to do. And there was a witness of Jesus Christ in Kohl's and the Amazon return line. On Saturday. And because I was listening, people received the truth. I don't know if Jimmy's completely healed. I'm believing that God healed him because I don't know him. I haven't been back to Kohl's since. You can go check him out. His name is Jimmy. He's at Kohl's and buy some more shoes for us and bring them up here. But God did a work in that moment. And you got to be ready. And I want to tell you guys, on first Wednesday, we're going to celebrate Jesus. We're going to press into some prayer. We're going to share some testimonies of healing and different things that have been going on in the church the last two or three weeks. And I want to encourage you guys, come and celebrate Jesus. Just come and praise him. Maybe you're supposed to come and be on your knees the entire service, but come and do what God is asking you to do. Maybe God wants you to share a word, but that's what that's for. But here's the sad reality. We don't listen to God. We want God to speak the things that we want to hear so we can stay in our comfort zone. At Kohl's, it was outside of the comfort zone for anybody. And you get to choose if you're going to step up to the plate. And we did in that moment. Jesus was witnessed. And you have to make that decision for yourself on how you're going to be filled and led by the Holy Spirit. Are you going to do what he says when he tells you to do it? To hear the Holy Spirit's voice is to follow what he tells you to do. And many people are scared that he's going to tell you to do something that you're not comfortable with. Well, I'm just going to break the news to you right now. It's going to be uncomfortable, but it will become comfortable. It will become something you desire to do and you want to do. You have to detach yourself from the material and carnal things of this world and make a decision that you're no longer going to live that way. And the way you do it is walking through this progression through the Holy Spirit to where you're finally being led and used." [01:00:24](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

3. "It's so important. So, let's strip this down and ask ourselves, how do I know I'm being led by the Spirit? How can I know this to be true? And the best thing is, what was that? absolutely. But here's one of the things I think we can grab hold of. What is the best model of the Spirit-filled Jesus? Jesus is the best model. And the Word tells us, 1 Corinthians 11-1, it says, Imitate me as I imitate Christ. Paul's saying, imitate me, do what I do, because I'm following Christ, so that you imitate Jesus. So, we are called to imitate Christ, amen? So, let's look at a list of how the Holy Spirit has impacted Jesus. What has He done? What has happened in His life? If He's Spirit-filled and living His life out here on earth, to witness to us who He is, and that He is God, and the Son of God, amen? And here's just some of the things. He was born of the Spirit, right? He was born of the Spirit. He was filled by the Spirit. He was led by the Spirit. We're going to talk a little bit more about that. He was anointed by the Holy Spirit. He did miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit. He became the sacrifice for all of our sins through the power of the Holy Spirit. He was raised from the dead through the power. He was raised from the dead through the power of the Holy Spirit. Go look it up. He breathed upon His disciples the power of the Holy Spirit to pour out on them. He asked the Father to pour out the Holy Spirit on all, and He baptized in the Holy Spirit, amen? Look at all these things. You would think, if these are all the things that are going on with Jesus, this is probably pretty important that we have a relationship with the Holy Spirit, amen? And Jesus fully depended on, and defended the Holy Spirit in public. Depended and defended, amen? Aside of just a couple of these, we should be actively operating in all these things. Actively living these things out. So you can start to look at this list and go, where is this at in my life? Do I really feel filled with the Holy Spirit? Do I really feel anointed by the Holy Spirit? And you can start looking at this because, it's a process of growing that we can grow into, amen? Jesus wants all of us to be fully immersed in the person, the power, and the purpose of the Holy Spirit, amen? You all want that? I don't know, I feel very confident up here. Do you guys want that today? I mean, I can just pray right now, and we can be done if you want to. No, no, I'm not done. I got something to say today. Uh, uh. But there's a process to be fully immersed in the Holy Spirit. Did you guys know that? It's a process, it's something you can do, something you can walk out in your life. And it's just stepping into what this process is. Wouldn't it be great if I could show you some steps to that? Well, that's exactly what I'm gonna do today. I'm gonna show you steps that will help you see a progress that you can make as you grow in the Holy Spirit, get closer to the Holy Spirit. Amen?" [30:45](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

Amen. And that's just born again. The next one is to be filled. So when you're born again, you receive him. He's your Lord. He's your Savior. You start to walk these things out. The Holy Spirit comes and starts to fill you. Check this out. Matthew four one. It says that Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. I'm going to ask you a question real quick. You ever wondered why the Holy Spirit led Jesus out into the wilderness to see the devil? Like why would he do that? And Apostle Manuel, he's an overseer. He's also over the church in Honduras. This is what he told me. He said, because the. Spirit wanted to introduce Jesus to the devil let him know that he's about to take everything you got this is the one that's gonna be victorious obviously that's a joke but uh but anyways but what's important about this right here is he's led in the spirit so what happened in Matthew 3 before he was led in the spirit he was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit amen before he was led into the wilderness you see the progression in that the progression is before the leading comes you have to be filled if you guys remember the second message I taught we all pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit people laid hands on you laid hands on yourself you don't have to have someone lay hands on you you can receive the Holy Spirit on your own by asking for the Bible says ask whatever you want you will receive it right but there's a feeling of the Holy that's what Jesus wanted to give you to bring you way the involved to Sinai and God под 의 calls in the receive it right and this is what He said and he said enough that much he went and'll receive it again all right put your hands on your feet Hey let me say all right well the Holy Spirit saved let's talk about some other things right so you're top to the mikä playoffs the organisers selfishness. Because if you're filled with selfishness, you're going to produce selfish behavior. It's about me. It's about mine. I want my deal. If you're filled with anger, you're going to be angry. You're going to show anger. If you're filled with offense, you're going to be offended by everything that comes along. If you're filled by bitterness, bitterness is going to come out of your life. It's what you're filled with is what is going to come out of your life. Amen. Amen. Why not be filled with the Holy Spirit? Because look at this church. Wait just a second. Think about it. If you're filled with the fruit of the Spirit, you're going to be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness. God's nature and character will be on full display if you're filled with the things of the Holy Spirit. Full display, church. People will see and there'll be an affection to it. What do they have to be filled by the Holy Spirit? They're going to pray up here. And maybe you were here and this is kind of new to you and you're trying to understand this Holy Spirit. But as we've unpacked some of this stuff, it's starting to get a little more solid in your life. Our prayer team is going to be up here. Come up here and ask them to lay hands on you and pray the baptism of the Holy Spirit and be" [47:08](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip | Download vertical captioned clip)

It's a process, it's something you can do, something you can walk
