#BelongToChrist
“Jesus didn't save us so we could retain our own authority and occasionally consult him for advice. Jesus gave himself to make us a people for his own possession. We now belong to him. And because we belong to him, he has the right to rule us. But the one who rules us is the savior who loved us and gave himself for us. And so the question Titus leaves with us isn't primarily, do I respect pastoral authority? The deeper question is, will you live under the loving authority of Jesus Christ as he speaks to us through his word?”

#AuthorityFromTheWord
“This isn't this verse isn't giving pastors, the elders, permission to say whatever they want to say and demand obedience. The the authority in the church does not ultimately belong to the pastor. It belongs to God who gave it to Christ, and Christ exercises his authority through his word. And that means the authority in the pulpit does not come from the person standing behind it. It comes from the word lying open upon it.”

#GraceAndAuthority
“The authority confronting you in god's word is not ultimately the authority of the pastor trying to control you. It is the authority of our great God and savior Jesus Christ. And what did he do? He loved you and gave himself for you. He redeemed you. He made you. He made us his own. And so submission to God's authority is not opposed to grace. Grace establishes God's loving claim upon us.”
