The Beast from the Earth Revelation 13

John places Revelation 13 inside the bigger outline of the book. John writes what he had seen in chapter 1, the things which are in the seven churches, and the things which shall be hereafter when the church is taken out of the way. Revelation presents the Laodicean age as lukewarm and sickening to Christ, but Christ still calls believers not to settle for being Laodicean Christians.

Revelation says he makes fire come down from heaven, copying the work associated with Elijah, and he persuades the masses to build an image for the beast. The image reveals mankind’s old fascination with what can be seen. Israel made a golden calf, Babylon bowed before Nebuchadnezzar’s image, and fallen people repeatedly exchange the glory of God for images that cannot see, hear, or speak.

Romans 1 shows why the world will be ready for this deception. Humanity knows God, yet suppresses the truth in unrighteousness, becomes vain in imagination, and changes the truth of God into a lie. God gives people over when they continually reject what they know to be true. Revelation 13 shows that rebellion reaching its awful fullness as the world walks by sight rather than faith.

Satan forms a counterfeit trinity through the dragon, the antichrist, and the false prophet. The Father is counterfeited by the dragon, Christ by the antichrist, and the Spirit’s work of pointing people to Christ by the false prophet’s work of pointing people to antichrist. The image of the beast will speak, demand worship, and bring death to those who refuse. Christ therefore calls saved people to warn others, and He calls lost people to choose Him before it is eternally too late.
