Bible ReadingGalatians 6:1-10 “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load. Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
[38:47]Colossians 3:12-17 “Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
[41:01]Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
[43:08]Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
[56:10]Observation questions- In Galatians 6:1, what two instructions are given to the person restoring someone caught in sin, and how do those instructions shape the way restoration happens?
- What kinds of burdens are named or implied in Galatians 6:2-5, and how is a burden different from a “load” each person must carry? [49:51]
- In Galatians 6:7-8, what contrast does Paul make between sowing to the flesh and sowing to the Spirit? What farming picture helps make that clear? [53:36]
- According to Galatians 6:9-10, who should receive our doing good, and what special attention is given to the household of faith? [01:00:19]
Interpretation questions- Paul connects spiritual maturity with gentle restoration rather than spiritual pride. Why does that matter for a church’s life together, especially when someone’s sin becomes visible? [45:16]
- The law of Christ is described as the self-giving love of Jesus taking shape among his people. How does that help explain what it really means to bear one another’s burdens? [55:29]
- Paul says both “bear one another’s burdens” and “each will have to bear his own load.” How can a church hold together personal responsibility and compassionate help without losing either one? [50:07]
- Paul tells believers not to grow weary in doing good because a harvest is coming in due season. What does that suggest about the kind of good works that may feel hidden, slow, or costly right now? [59:37]
Application questions- Restoration kneels beside the fallen rather than standing over them. Is there anyone in this season whose struggle has made it easier to judge from a distance than to move near in gentleness? What might moving toward that person actually look like? [48:32]
- Some burdens are too heavy to carry alone. What is one burden in this season that may need to be shared with the body of Christ instead of being carried quietly and alone? [01:05:06]
- Each person must bear his own load, and yet the church is called to help with crushing burdens. Where is the difference hard to discern in real life for this group—parenting, grief, finances, temptation, illness, burnout? How can wisdom and love help in that area?
- Sowing reveals the harvest a person is seeking. What has been receiving time, attention, money, emotional energy, and prayer lately? What kind of harvest is that pattern likely to produce? [54:36]
- Doing good often feels like seed buried in the ground. Where has weariness begun to set in—praying for someone, helping a family member, serving in church, fighting sin, or showing up for a struggling friend? What would it look like not to give up there? [58:36]
- As there is opportunity, believers are to do good to everyone, especially to the household of faith. Who has God placed nearby right now that may need a call, a visit, a meal, a hard conversation, or simply steady presence? [01:05:52]
- Christ carried the burden sinners could never carry. How does remembering that Christ has carried guilt, shame, and judgment change the way a person asks for help or offers help to others? [01:03:14]
