Each day, we are invited to offer our lives as a living sacrifice. This is not a one-time event but a continual, daily practice of surrendering our will, our desires, and our very selves to the One who created and redeemed us. It is an act of worship that moves beyond a song on Sunday and into the choices of our Monday. This presentation is holy and acceptable to God, a spiritual act that aligns our lives with His good and perfect will. It is the foundation of a transformed life. [45:16]
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2 NLT)
Reflection: What is one specific part of your daily routine—your thoughts, your time, or your resources—that you feel invited to consciously present to God as an offering this week?
Transformation is a journey, not a destination. It is an inside-out process that requires our active participation and God's gracious power. This renewal is not a quick download of information but a gradual reshaping of our thoughts, desires, and perspectives to reflect Christ. We are called to go on refusing the world's mold and to go on letting God remold us from within. This is the path to discerning and walking in God's will. [55:44]
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT)
Reflection: Where have you recently recognized an old pattern of thinking that is not aligned with your new self in Christ, and what is one practical step you can take to put on a renewed mindset this week?
We are not designed to walk this journey of faith in isolation. God has placed us within a community, the body of Christ, where we find strength, support, and shared purpose. Just as a body has many parts with different functions, so we each have a unique and vital role to play. Our spiritual health and growth are directly tied to our connection with and commitment to this spiritual family. There is strength in numbers. [01:00:34]
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. (1 Corinthians 12:12-14 NLT)
Reflection: In what area of your life do you feel most tempted to "go it alone," and how might you take a step toward deeper connection with your church family this week?
One vital way our minds are renewed is through the self-offering of worship and the choice to come in close to other believers. This proximity allows us to be known and to know others, moving beyond surface-level relationships. It is an intentional step out of isolation and into the sometimes-messy but life-giving work of authentic Christian community. This choice is a powerful act of faith that fosters unity and growth. [01:08:16]
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT)
Reflection: What is one fear or past experience that makes you hesitant to move from the periphery into closer community, and what would it look like to take a small, courageous step toward proximity?
As God's masterpieces, we are called to a life of transparency and humility. This includes the courage to invite trusted others to examine our lives—our thoughts, our actions, and our hearts—and the humility to offer the same loving evaluation in return. This is not about judgment but about growth, ensuring we are not living as counterfeits but as the authentic, Christ-formed masterpieces we are called to be. [01:11:00]
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. (Ephesians 4:15-16 NLT)
Reflection: Who is one person in your life you trust to speak truth in love to you, and what is one area where you could specifically invite their encouragement or gentle challenge this week?
Romans 12:1–5 anchors a clear, urgent call to daily discipleship: present the body as a living sacrifice, refuse cultural conformity, and pursue ongoing renewal of the mind. Justification by faith stands alongside sanctification as an ongoing work; believers receive mercy and then enter a disciplined, daily fight to identify lies, wounds, fears, and strongholds and to replace them with Christlike thinking. Renewal happens inside out—transformation of the heart precedes consistent moral fruit—and the Holy Spirit serves as Coach, equipping and empowering each person to practice spiritual habits that form the mind toward God’s will.
Worship and proximity to other believers function as spiritual tactics for renewal. Public worship, gospel-centered teaching, small groups, and mutual examination cultivate the environment in which minds are reformed. Close relationships expose counterfeit habits and show the true material of a life being shaped by Christ, just as proximity reveals a fake painting. A willing, humble invitation to be examined both receives help and enables others to offer loving correction; this mutual work builds up the body so every part can work properly.
The body metaphor presses practical questions: what keeps someone at arm’s length? Common lies—“I’m too busy,” “I don’t belong,” “They’ll judge me,” “Organized religion isn’t necessary,” “Leaders can’t be trusted”—become barriers to proximity and thus to growth. Each lie must be taken captive through community, scripture, prayer, and confession. When members join together, equipped and joined by Christ the cornerstone, the whole temple grows into a holy dwelling where God is at home.
Renewal is not a one-time fix but a daily warfare on the battlefield of the mind. The right environment, faithful practice, and a body working in love produce visible growth. The call closes with a simple invitation to surrender, accept Christ’s lordship, and step into the life of the body—accepting proximity, open evaluation, and the mutual shaping that restores Christ’s image in each member.
Whatever the lie, whatever the stronghold, deal with it. Take it captive. Tear it down. Renew it. Don't and don't wait until you're in a crisis. Don't wait until things fall apart. Too many of us are content to live isolated and safe, cut off from real Christian community until things fall apart. And then because we haven't done the slow, messy, and agricultural work of tilling proximity, tilling and inviting examination, when we need it most, we suffer.

And when it comes to being renewed in the spirit of our minds, this isn't a one and done. Wah wah. How many of you wish that you could like just flip a switch one day and be completely transformed in the spirit of your mind? Right? I I think I've referenced the movie The Matrix, you know, where they plug something into the back of your neck and you're like, oh, I know how to fly a helicopter. I didn't know how to do that before. This is not that.

Too many believers function like a sock, sliding on and off as the the body as it suits them. The dirtier we feel, the quicker we eject. And nobody loves a single sock. Some of you here are tempted to go it alone because you can't find your matching sock. You're not a sock. You're a part of the body. So we, though many, are one body in Christ and individually members one of another.

Jesus is the cornerstone, and he wants to fit you in well as one of the bricks that holds this whole thing together. You matter. You're a masterpiece. Jesus is the body, the truly human being who is God all over, and he invites us to live in him. You saying yes to renewing your mind is also you saying yes to proximity and yes to close evaluation. Long for it. Ask for it. Be wise in asking for correction. You can't do it alone.

And here's the thing, this is all a part of, here's why it matters, this is a part of our sanctification. This is a part of it. This is important doctrine for Christians. This is when we think about being justified by faith, justification and sanctification, these are two really big words. But, you know, as we come into Holy Week, we remember that through Christ's sacrifice, through his death on the cross, through being raised to life, we've been justified by our faith. God calls us righteous.

And then there's an ongoing work of being made righteous, being transformed into the image of Jesus. And this is important to remember. This is a a journey, not a destination. And it is for freedom that Jesus makes us free. So how do we walk in that freedom? There is an ongoing supernatural work of God happening in our lives to rescue us from the disease of sin and to transform us into the image of his son, Jesus Christ.

The body of Christ isn't growing and isn't building up in love if you aren't fulfilling your part as the body and working properly. So two things that are gonna help us with this. Number one, proximity. Come in close. The self offering of Christian worship. I love that you're here today. Get into this room. Get into this room more than the Canadian average, which is one in six. Just make it a practice. Let's call Sundays sacred again.

But we must go on refusing to conform to this world's ways and go on letting ourselves be transformed according to God's will. Examine my canvas. Examine my paint. Come in close. And will you let me do the same? This is why we're always like, get in a small group. Do you wanna be pastored here? Do you wanna be pastored in a way that's gonna challenge you to grow? Like, get in a small group. Join a team. That's where you're gonna be known and seen.
